It puts our work into people’s hands and creates an entry point for deeper relationships with organizations that operate and depend on these systems.We are a small team working across machine learning, data infrastructure, software, and real-world operations.About the RoleWe are hiring a Founding Commercial Lead to turn product interest and technical capabilities into paid customer deployments.You will use Ask The Grid, targeted outreach, and founder relationships to engage energy companies making recurring, consequential decisions across assets and portfolios. Working with the founders, you will identify the most promising accounts, find a valuable first workflow, and build a path to broader adoption across each customer’s assets, teams, and decisions.This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with substantial influence on product and commercial strategy. You will own opportunities from discovery through evaluation, negotiation, and expansion. The founders will remain involved in technical selling and product commitments; our technical team will own implementation.You will help establish what we sell and how we sell it - not inherit a finished sales playbook.<h2>Requirements</h2>What You Will Own<ul><li>Build a focused pipeline. Identify promising accounts through Ask The Grid engagement, relationships, and direct outreach. Prioritize organizations with important operational problems, credible buyers, and a feasible first deployment.</li><li>Understand the customer’s decisions. Investigate workflows, existing tools, economic stakes, available data, and operating constraints. Identify the people who will use, approve, and pay for a deployment.</li><li>Shape evaluations and proposals. Work with engineering and machine-learning teammates to define a clear scope, baseline, success criteria, data requirements, and commercial next step. Connect technical performance to measurable customer value.</li><li>Close paid engagements. Lead demonstrations, develop pricing and proposals with the founders, navigate procurement, and negotiate agreements. Move opportunities from initial interest through evaluation into sustained paid use.</li><li>Expand successful relationships. Stay involved as deployments begin, help establish the value delivered, and identify additional assets, teams, and workflows that could benefit from the same models and data.</li><li>Build a repeatable commercial approach. Maintain an accurate pipeline and clear next steps. Bring recurring customer needs into product decisions, develop reusable sales materials and evaluation packages, and distinguish scalable opportunities from bespoke work.</li></ul>What You Bring<ul><li>Demonstrated commercial ownership. You have helped win and grow paid customer relationships for technical software, data, or analytical products. You can explain your contribution, who controlled the budget, how value was demonstrated, and why the customer bought.</li><li>Energy fluency. You understand power markets, energy assets, or utility operations well enough to conduct substantive discovery with operators and engineers. You can learn unfamiliar workflows quickly.</li><li>Technical understanding. You are comfortable discussing data, forecasting, evaluation, integrations, and deployment requirements. You do not need to be a researcher, but you must represent our capabilities accurately and recognize when to involve specialists.</li><li>Commercial and product judgment. You can distinguish user enthusiasm from buying intent, navigate multiple stakeholders, and turn customer requests into valuable, deliverable engagements. You know when an opportunity is worth pursuing, and when it is not.</li><li>Hands-on execution. You are willing to prospect, demonstrate, write proposals, negotiate, and follow through yourself. You communicate precisely and create structure without needing an established sales organization around you.</li></ul>Relevant backgrounds include enterprise sales, commercial development, technical consulting, and customer-facing deployment roles. Your title matters less than your demonstrated responsibility for commercial outcomes.Experience with early-stage companies, industrial AI, energy software, forecasting, or optimization is helpful. An existing energy-sector network is valuable, but it does not replace judgment and execution.What Early Success Looks LikeWithin your first 90 days, you should have a focused account strategy, a qualified pipeline grounded in specific operational workflows, and initial opportunities progressing into paid engagements or well-defined evaluations with an explicit commercial decision point.You should also be bringing back evidence about what customers will pay for, what we can deliver repeatedly, and where to focus next. We will assess progress through customer commitments and commercial outcomes - not meeting counts alone.<h2>Benefits</h2>Location and Working StyleThis is a hybrid role based in Boston or New York City, with regular in-person time with the founding team. You will work directly with the founders and collaborate closely with our engineering, data, and machine-learning teams.Compensation and Benefits<ul><li>Base salary: $120,000–$178,000 per year.</li><li>Meaningful early-stage equity.</li><li>Medical and dental benefits.</li></ul>The initial package emphasizes base salary and equity rather than a commission-heavy plan while we establish our commercial approach. The role carries clear responsibility for revenue and account growth.
