Job Description

OVERVIEWThe Electrical Engineering COE within Smart Hardware is responsible for R&D of hardware platform technologies in autonomous driving, digital cockpit, and digital networking. The team innovates around project pain-points across global NIO products, explores cutting-edge technologies within and beyond automotive industry, and develops prototypes/architectures/ processes/standards to push product boundaries. You will collaborate with other NIOers around the world (US, CN, UK, DE, etc.) to develop hardware that delights the user. 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team responsible for the innovation, design, and development of all hardware components and infrastructure in support of NIO Smart Hardware team
  • Collaborate with technical leadership in other areas such as Mechanical, Software, and Program Management to deliver solutions that are reliable, safe, and cost effective
  • Ensure high quality design decisions are being made during development with proper tradeoffs from design to cost, as well as component availability from supply chain
  • Participate in overall architecture design and iteration, selecting tools and technologies
  • Contribute to a healthy and positive engineering culture
  • Partner with global leaders, HR and recruiting to develop and execute on a strategy to attract, retain and develop top talent and role model leadership best practices

Qualifications

  • Masters or B.S in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field
  • Experience with high compute, sensors, high speed design, network and communications protocols
  • Experience of leading full development from concept, design, validation, and production
  • Good communication skills with diverse cross functional teams and external partners
  • Passionate about leading teams, staying on top of technology and developing real-world solutions
  • Effective leader and strong negotiator with vendors and third parties, and/or industry organizations
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions
  • Excellent business judgment, work ethic, and integrity
  • Team-builder; focused on developing internal talent and creating pathways for growth

Great to Have

  • Experience designing to automotive or military standards is a plus
  • Experience with L2+ autonomous vehicle hardware is a plus
