Linux Administrator (Hybrid)

FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION

YOUR MISSION

To provide level 1 and 2 Linux Systems Administration of all Linux servers and related systems with an emphasis on uptime and automation.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Linux Administrator reports to the HPC Systems Manager for priorities and working methods, but serves stakeholders across all engineering teams with an emphasis on supporting the infrastructure needs of Software, Machine Learning, GIS, and Computational Chemistry.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Act as administrative lead for all Linux servers
• Analyze and resolve problems associated with Linux servers, VMs, containers, hardware, security, and applications.
• Work with DevOps Engineer and Systems Engineer on projects, including system redundancy, patch management, system performance, and capacity planning
• Manage Ceph storage solution for health and scale
• Manage data backups and redundancy, including restores and validation
• Manage all Linux based hypervisors and hosted VMs
• Provide support for Linux users within all engineering teams
• Perform deep dives on identified issues to resolve root cause and prevent reoccurrence
• Maintain monitoring systems and alert functions

REQUIREMENTS

• Substantial hands-on experience with Ansible
• Hands-on experience with Proxmox
• 3+ years of Linux or Unix experience, preferably in a machine learning environment
• Experience building and administering data storage solutions (CephFS, ZFS)
• Hands-on experience using Terraform
• Hands on experience with container frameworks (e.g. Docker, Apptainer, ContainerD)
• Understanding of clustering and load balancing
• Demonstrated knowledge of BASH scripting
• Familiar with general concepts of LAN/WAN networking
• Familiarity with common cloud infrastructure tools in AWS and/or Azure
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Willingness to learn and keep up-to-date with technological developments and changing work methods
