Job Description

FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION

OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Research Technician with a passion for science and agriculture to join our innovative Research & Development team in the in vitro high throughput screening group. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in setting up and assessing in vitro bioassays, complemented with proven teamwork and excellent communication skills and a mentality to produce high quality work consistently. The Research technician will report to the team lead for in vitro high throughput screening team and will work closely with the other team members within the diverse-skilled R&D group.

MISSION

To support the development and execution of in vitro screening assays for testing of a broad range of potential fungicidal, insecticidal, herbicidal molecules, against plant-parasitic pathogens, and model organisms like insects and cell lines.

ACCOUNTABILITIES  

  • Perform experiments in support of research projects at Terramera based on knowledge of scientific theory, interpreting and performing basic analyses of results
  • Responsible for the setup of in vitro high throughput screens both independently and collaboratively as a team
  • Supporting and collaborating with team members on various projects to meet project deliverables and timelines
  • Operate our cutting-edge automated screening system and software
  • Perform routine lab maintenance and operations, as required
  • Prepare standard reagents and media
  • Carry out routine handling and maintenance of various plant pathogens, insects and cell lines.
  • Organize and manage common inventory and reagents

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.Sc. in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related field with at least 1 years of experience working in the lab 
  • Proficient with biology lab operations, experimental design and setup, statistics and data collection
  • Possess excellent aseptic techniques and pipetting techniques
  • Flexibility to work in accordance with the needs of experiments being performed

ASSETS

  • Practical experience in setting up of in vitro assays for screening chemicals
  • Experience in designing, executing and troubleshooting in-vitro 96/384 wells-based microtiter plate experiments;
  • Experience in imaging and microscopy applications and usage of plate-based readers
  • Practical experience of handling automated liquid handlers
