Job Description

About our Company

Equilibrium Energy is a well-funded, Series A clean energy startup backed by some of the most prominent institutional investors in climate. We are building a digital native power company operating at the intersection of grid variability, market volatility, economic optimization, commercial structuring, and risk management, across the end-to-end power value chain. Our mission is to accelerate our collective path to climate, energy, and societal equilibriums. Our goal is to become one of the next-generation, digital-native, end-to-end global clean power companies that reshapes the energy industry.

New colleagues will share our vision that a next-generation energy company must be built from the ground up on deep industry expertise combined with an unwavering commitment to modern digital approaches. We design our commercial strategies, operational approaches, and product suites so as to best leverage data-driven insights, automated workflows, ML-infused pipelines, and fully automated decision engines. These capabilities are enabled by our progressively modern software stack and engineering best practices, which in turn provide the scalable platform we need to put a serious dent in carbon emissions. We’re looking for collaborative, talented, passionate and resourceful folks to join our team and help us lay the foundation for our important mission and ambitious plan.

What we are looking for

Equilibrium is at the early stages of preparing for exponential growth. We’re looking for a doer who can sit at the center of all our cross-functional company building activities and help us lay the foundation for growing from a Series A startup into a high-growth medium-stage company. We’re a nimble but strategic and thoughtful company, and we’re looking for an adaptable, resourceful, creative and strategic jack-of-all-trades who can help us build our very fast growing organization. If you like building software startup companies from the ground up and are passionate about making a serious contribution to fighting climate change, this role is for you.

What you will do

As a Business Operations Associate, you will help define how Equilibrium operates and scales. In this high visibility position, you will play a central role in defining organization priorities, launching new departments, developing investor and board presentation materials, developing and managing mission critical business processes (company-wide OKRs, fundraising milestones, leadership rubrics, continuous improvement processes, etc.), defining metrics to report on business performance, and implementing tools & systems for running the business. There isn’t a blueprint for building a company…you’ll build and adapt and orient the company for growth as we scale. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, follow-through, an embrace of outsized accountability, and an ability to navigate and thrive in ambiguity. In this role, you’ll be the second member of our newly formed Business Operations team, reporting to the Head of Operations. You will have the opportunity to build your expertise and leadership in the clean energy industry as you help grow this business from the ground up.

In this role, you will:

  • Help define, build, execute and improve our cross-company Business Operations efforts
    • Continuously unearth opportunities for improvement in running and scaling the organization as we seek exponential growth
    • Define company operational priorities, strategies, and associated resource needs
    • Build and manage reporting tools to codify company performance for leadership, board, and investor stakeholders
    • Define metrics, develop dashboards, and drive insights via company-wide metrics and OKRs
    • Define and provide reporting, analysis, and guidance to senior management across Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Trading on organizational performance
  • Define, scale and lead our Financial Planning & Analysis efforts
    • Define, manage and continuously improve our FP&A efforts: budgeting, oversee bookkeepers, influence forecasting approaches, and deepen our financial planning and modeling efforts
  • Help scale our People Operations organization
    • Support and help scale our hiring efforts
    • Continuously improve our onboarding approaches
    • Deepen our approach to employee engagement, including helping define engagement model
    • Inform our performance assessment approach
    • Inform our leadership and management training and support efforts
  • Serve as an all-purpose Strategic Associate for company special projects
    • Research and define business operations tooling strategy and execution plans
    • Serve as a key strategist in the definition and execution of a successful remote-first business organization
    • Support fundraising efforts and valuation assessments

The minimum qualifications you’ll need

  • Passion for clean energy and fighting climate change
  • 2+ years relevant professional experience in management consulting, engineering, business intelligence, finance, or a related industry/discipline
  • Strong financial modeling, forecasting skills, data visualization, and presentation building experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a successful record of streamlining systems and implementing processes at scale that support organizational objectives
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills – able to build relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and able to work autonomously and comfortably with incomplete information

Nice to have additional skills

  • Top tier management consulting experience
  • Experience with SQL or other business intelligence and reporting query systems
  • Experience with identifying opportunities for business or operations improvement, and defining and measuring the success of those initiatives
  • Ability to build data systems and analysis that can scale with the company and increasing complexity of operations

Not sure this is the right role for you?

We are a high growth company with accelerating hiring needs so there’s a great chance we’ll be able to create a custom role for you, now or in the future. All roles, titles and compensation packages are tailored to the applicant, so apply anyways and tell us in your cover letter about your dream role.
