Job Description

 

About the Role 

As a Sanitation Manger you will focus on food sanitation processes including continuous improvement plans, training, retaining, and sanitation procedures. You will be responsible for directing all activities necessary for cleaning and sanitizing for the production, packaging, dry and cold storage areas and all production equipment on a daily basis in multiple areas of the facility and ensuring that all duties are performed in accordance with USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture), SSOP (Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures), HACCP (Hazardous Analysis Critical Controls Points), FDA (Food and Drug administration) KDA (Kentucky Department of Agriculture), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), as well as all safety policies and procedures and any other established policies and requirements necessary. 

What You’ll Do

  • Assuming additional duties of training new associates and working closely with each other
  • Can guide others in proper procedures
  • Familiarization with GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) food safety standards
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in Food Safety sanitation in food production industry
  • Organization from the activities and schedules
  • Hands on person with ability to lead and train the team from field
  • Oversees and manages the Industrial Hygiene crew to meet standards to all Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures
  • Responsible for scheduling and directing industrial hygiene team on weekend for sanitation/janitorial duties
  • Maintain inventory of sanitation supplies
  • Provide expertise and leadership in Sanitation programs
  • Keeps sanitation crew focused on aesthetic conditions of equipment and plant the effective elimination of bacterial load
  • Helps develop and implement strategic sanitation programs, policies, plans and processes to ensure that sanitary programs meet AppHarvest standards
  • Train and set safety goals for sanitation crew
  • Ensure plant is cleaned daily and ready to start production on time
  • Coordinating and monitoring cleaning schedules
  • Preforming daily inspections of the manufacturing facility and reporting irregularities to HACCP Team
  • Follow all food safety requirements and GMP’s as applicable for this position
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer, and government standards
  • Ensures compliance to all federal, state, and local laws and company policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 5 plus years of manufacturing experience in the food industry
  • Previous experience as a Food industry sanitation preferred
  • Technical knowledge of regulatory requirements, inclusive of FSMA Produce Safety Rule, Preventive Controls, microbial hazards, third party audit bodies, sanitation procedures and field and plant operations
  • Must be a self-motivated and able to keep projects moving forward under stressful conditions. Changing priorities will be a persistent factor
  • Able to read documents such as MSDS Safety rules and procedures manuals
  • Able to compile reports and analyze data
  • Able to compute rate ratio and percent when preparing cleaning chemicals
  • Team oriented individual
  • Extensive knowledge of sanitation in the food or beverage industry
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced managerial skills
  • Detailed knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety protocols
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to design and implement training programs
  • HACCP experience
  • Understand performance metrics

Working conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to adapt to temperature extremes, such as hot and cold.  Being comfortable working in temperatures ranging between 36°F and 46°F for extended periods of time in Packhouse to +100°F in the summer in the Greenhouse 
  • Must be comfortable working at heights up to 15 feet
  • Ability to stand for up to a 10-hour shift on concrete floors
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and bend
  • Must be able to work at a steady pace and must be detailed oriented
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation
  • Open availability to work various work schedules including weekends
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
  • Must be comfortable working near moving mechanical parts
  • Must be comfortable working with cleaning chemicals
