Job Description

About Us

We are Sila, a next-generation battery materials company. Our mission is to power the world’s transition to clean energy. To create this future, our team is building a better lithium-ion battery from the inside out today. We engineer and manufacture ground-breaking battery materials that significantly increase the energy density of batteries, while reducing their size and weight. The result? Smaller more powerful batteries that can unlock innovation in consumer devices and accelerate the mass adoption of electric cars to eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels. We're tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time every day, and together we're redefining what's possible. Are you ready to be a part of a team committed to changing the world?

In our small team, you’ll be asked to take on broad technical responsibilities to specify equipment, review/approve external design documentation, and support installation and commissioning. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external engineering and construction partners to bring Sila’s large-scale capital projects to life.

  • Engage with internal Sila teams and external vendors to support the integration of material handling systems into factories
  • Work with external engineering resources for drawing and design review cycles, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Work with factory CAD models for reviews and layout design with Sila’s Industrial Engineer (detailed CAD design to be performed primarily by external contractors)
  • Respond to technical RFIs and submittals across multiple contractors
  • Travel frequently to project sites and contractors’ offices

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in facilities design, engineering, or related project work
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; preference for backgrounds in mechanical, civil, structural, and/or electrical engineering
  • Experience managing contractors with complex scope
  • Proven communication skills, across external and internal teams
  • Familiarity with industrial codes and standards (for example: state fire codes, NEC/IEC, NFPA, ASME, API, etc)
  • Ability to review and understand documentation, drawings, and specifications
  • 2D and 3D CAD proficiency (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Experience in related industries such as semiconductor, solar cell manufacturing, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology would be nice
  • Willing to travel to build sites and contractors’ design offices for construction and commissioning support

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Move long distances and be stationary for extended periods of time
  • Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes
