Position:  Business Development Director

Reports to:  Offsets Taskforce Leader

Location:  Remote

We are looking for an individual with the experience, knowledge, interpersonal skills, and creativity to build successful downstream grain programs that incorporate value from sustainably sourced grain and nitrogen credit insets. This individual will need to build successful relationships with internal and external partners, national/international consumer brands, large grain aggregators, and growers.  These relationships will be vital in building creative solutions and linkages with downstream end-users of Pivot Bio produced grain.  This role will be considered a pathway to value creation and revenue for Pivot Bio, our partners, end-users, and our growers.

Responsibilities: 

  • Understand and evaluate all downstream marketing options for Pivot Bio’s sustainably grown grain and the linkage with nitrogen credits (insets)
  • Lead the process for determining best options and creating pathways for optimized value for growers, end-users, and Pivot Bio
  • Build and maintain solid working relationships with all partners in the sustainability product value chain including grain buyers, ingredient companies, consumer packaged goods, etc.  Utilize customer relationship management software to track contacts and progress with sustainability market players.
  • Lead and coordinate the process for evaluating, optimizing, gaining approval for, and executing approved downstream programs
  • Contribute to the broader task force efforts in providing input and feedback on all sustainability projects
  • After establishing our first downstream projects, will hire additional Business Development headcount to support growth in end-user accounts

Qualifications and Experience 

  • A minimum of a BS degree in Agriculture, Sciences, or Business is required or at least 5 years of equivalent experience in these fields
  • Strong communications and negotiation skills with an ability to be effective across a wide range of individuals, teams, levels, and organizations
  • Ability to persuade people and teams in adopting new practices or value-added products
  • Ability to coordinate complex projects across multiple teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems
  • Experience and understanding of the complexities in grain supply chains is preferred
  • Travel requirements of up to 40% per month overnight and away from home
  • Physical requirements of the job include travel (see above) and ability to work at a computer for 8 hours per day
