Are you an engineer or scientist who loves working on new technologies? QuantumScape is growing our Advanced R&Dteam with the addition of a forward-thinking Senior Battery Materials Research Engineer - Senior Member Technical Staff (SMTS)thatis a versatile researcher who is looking for technical challenges and professional growth. The individual most successful in this new role would be a materials scientist or engineer with a background in battery research. We are seeking a researcher to further improve the performance of our novel solid-state battery materials. This role is inherently hands-on in lab and requires a strong understanding of data analysis and experimental rigor.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the failure modes and requirements of our positive electrode and develop new materials to overcome those limits
  • Perform failure analyses and materials characterization to understand the limits of new materials
  • Design and execute experiments to identify materials for high energy density batteries
  • Optimize electrode and electrolyte materials stable at high voltage
  • Collaborate with chemists, materials scientists, process engineers, and technicians in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary environment
  • Deliver high-quality technical reports to colleagues

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with experience in battery materials and analysis; or MS degree in science and engineering with a minimum of 4 years of industrial experience in the energy storage industry
  • Direct experience with synthesis or characterization of active materials or electrolytes and in-depth knowledge of electrochemical testing
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understand of safe chemical handling and experience in following laboratory practices
  • Sound understanding of materials science fundamentals

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proven experience with sophisticated material characterization methods
  • Proven experience in Lithium-ion battery research or development

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and twisting motions with hands
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs.
