Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

Job Brief

As a Senior Electrochemical Engineer within the Electrochemistry team, you will lead the collaboration with our MEA fabrication team to build structure-property relationships between our MEA microstructure and electrolyzer performance. You will be working cross-functionally to optimize electrolyzer operation conditions based on electrode composition and structure. Your role will emphasize improving Twelve’s fundamental understanding of how electrode structure affects reactor performance. As a result, your work will lay the critical foundation for further improvement of Twelve’s core technology. You will design electrochemical tests, and then analyze the results to guide future directions on MEA and electrode fabrication.

What you will do

  • Design and conduct thoughtful experiments, analyze data, and interpret experimental results.
  • Make calculations related to thermal, electrical and electrochemical properties within the cell.
  • Work closely with the characterization team to identify proper tools to characterize cell components pertaining to ion conductivity, membrane integrity, and mass transport.
  • Share data with cross-functional teams and facilitate discussions to guide experimental plan
  • Propose optimizations to our MEA morphology based on quantitative electrochemical experimentation.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain existing systems.
  • Guide and review experimental procedures for new and existing scale-up units.
  • Prepare presentations and report on progress at internal meetings.

Who you are

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science preferred) or extensive experience (5+ years) in industrial R&D relating to fuel cells and/or electrolyzers.
  • You have demonstrable hands-on experience working in a research or industrial lab.
  • You have experience working with electrochemical devices with ionically conductive polymer materials/membranes.
  • You have high attention to detail and outstanding communication skills through all channels.
  • You are adept at working with cross-functional groups and multiple stakeholders.

Twelve Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick days and vacation
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
