Job Description

Job title: Data Engineering Manager

Location: London (including hybrid)

Salary: £70,000 - £120,500

Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the technology area of Kaluza. We are a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and ensuring best practices across the board of the engineering community.

You will be working on the Analytical Products within Orion platform in Kaluza. Orion is a single instance multi-tenant SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind, as the first real-time energy system created using functional programming and event sourcing. We are looking to transform to a multi-tenant, international ready model to help the business take on new challenges and external customers.

What will I be doing?

Building strong teams is a vitally important aspect of the role, so you’ll be heavily involved in recruitment, onboarding and personal development of data/analytics engineers. You’ll work closely with the teams’ Product Managers and Agile Coaches to make sure they are balancing quality and flow with delivery of great products to our customers. We have a very strong engineering culture that’s all about empowerment and ownership, all to solve one of the world’s greatest problems. Data & Analytics is the foundation of everything we do, and to deliver our vision we need curious, tenacious people who can turn this usable and robust information.

Is this the job for me?

Key responsibilities include:

    • Engineer motivation: You will have functional reporting for the team’s data engineers helping their professional development (actively delegating responsibility) and shape the approach for the whole team ensuring a high-energy and enjoyable place to work.
    • Co-ordinating development: working with the product manager to enable feature development
    • Design authority: be able to make technical decisions as to how the product should be best formed
    • Getting your hands dirty: you’re probably a coder and are likely to still help assist - certainly reviewing PRs and driving quality code
    • Improve data quality: drive a respect for data quality that ensures the analysis can be robust

Ideally...

  • You’re passionate about nurturing engineering talent, encouraging their development, and also ensuring everyone is aligned with product delivery objectives
  • You are genuinely excited about developing analytical products that will positively impact over a million people and also our environment
  • You’re passionate about how organisations can use data & analytics to flourish
  • You have experience with data engineering delivering analytical solutions, especially in the Google stack
  • You know your databases & schema designs from your stars to your columnar
  • You have experience working with high performing engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their technical decision making
  • You use your influence and stakeholder management skills to have wide-reaching impact
  • You love building scalable, resilient analytical products
  • You seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge
