Job Description

Role: Associate Principal Product Designer, Flex

Location: London/Bristol/Edinburgh/Lisbon (including Hybrid)

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000

Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform energy retailer operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You’ll be part of our Platform Design community and will embed in our Kaluza Flex product team — designed to be the nervous system connecting energy retailers, grid operators, and consumers. Flex will aid us in creating the distributed, consumer-centric, dynamic energy system of the future. Bridging the gap between distributed renewable generation and smart devices, it helps consumers shift their energy consumption to times when there's more renewable energy. This not only saves them money, but enables society as a whole to meet the challenge of decarbonising transport and residential heating/cooling. We’re also supporting this vital shift by building the innovative technology behind unique, market-leading customer propositions like Vehicle to Grid and Drive Anytime Energy Plan with our energy retailer partners.

What will I be doing?

You’ll be enabling consumers to become active participants in the future of energy by pairing with our Flex design team and partnering with colleagues from Product, Engineering, Data, Marketing and Business Development.

Your first focus will be on iterating on our core electric vehicle smart charging app — technology that enables EV Drivers to charge their vehicle when energy is greener and cheaper. Our product is currently being trialed in 4 different markets, over the next year this will increase. You’ll take in learnings from these trials and translate them into actionable changes that improve EV Driver outcomes. You’ll help us ensure that our app meets the diverse needs of EV Drivers across many different markets and cultures. Our ambition doesn’t stop at electric vehicles, our north star is to become the intelligence sitting behind most new devices sold in 2026.

You’ll do this by

  • Learning about EV Drivers and their behaviours
  • Identifying behavioural design changes that improve the outcomes for consumers
  • Crafting detailed and polished user interfaces, that solve concrete problems
  • Testing your designs with real users, using wireframes, mockups and prototypes
  • Collaborating with content design on a product localisation strategy for different markets
  • Co-designing and collaborating with designers, product managers, engineers and marketers
  • Facilitating ideation and sketching sessions with the team
  • Taking part in design critiques and working in the open through ceremonies like show and tells
  • Supporting our clients in being successful with our product
  • Helping to craft appealing pitches to new clients
  • Building on top of our design system and adhering to accessibility standards
  • Helping the team, and our clients, ideate and visualise the future of our products

Is this the job for me?

This is an incredibly exciting time to join the team, we have the foundations in place and now our focus turns to getting our product into the hands of more customers globally.

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in lean and agile approaches to product design delivery
  • The ability to gather business requirements as well as user needs to craft solutions that meet in the middle
  • Experience in designing compelling and effective experiences that drive positive behaviour change
  • Knowledge of how design can impact user behaviour
  • Experience with User Interface design tools (we use Figma), working with components/symbols, styles and libraries
  • Knowledge of interaction design industry trends and patterns  across all device types and screen sizes
  • Experience in validating your solutions, including user testing methodologies, analytics, customer feedback
  • The ability to bring colleagues and stakeholders into the design process
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Calm and quick thinking skills
  • Ability to shift gears in a fast changing environment.
