Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

You’ll be working on Kaluza’s Flexibility platform. Designed to be the nervous system connecting energy retailers, grid operators, and consumers, Flex will aid us in creating the distributed, consumer-centric, dynamic energy system of the future. Bridging the gap between distributed renewable generation and smart devices, it helps consumers shift their energy consumption to times when there's more renewable energy. This not only saves them money, but enables society as a whole to meet the challenge of decarbonising transport and residential heating/cooling. We’re also supporting this vital shift by building the innovative technology behind unique, market-leading customer propositions like Vehicle to Grid and Drive Anytime Energy Plan with our energy retailer partners.

What will I be doing?

Building strong teams is a vitally important aspect of the role, so you’ll be heavily involved in recruitment, onboarding and personal development of engineers. You’ll work closely with the teams’ Product Managers and Agile Coaches to make sure they are balancing quality and flow with delivery of great products to our customers.

We have a very strong engineering culture that’s all about empowerment and ownership: all to solve one of the world’s greatest problems.

Key responsibilities include:

You will look after 2 teams of engineers, up to 10 direct reports. Engineering Managers contribute to both the technical and product vision of their teams, making sure that their products are successful. You’re unlikely to be particularly hands-on with the code, but will have enough technical experience to be able to contribute to and guide technical discussions, bringing the big picture context.

Is this the job for me?

  • You’re passionate about nurturing engineering talent, encouraging their development, and also ensuring everyone is aligned with product delivery objectives
  • You are genuinely excited about discovering and developing products that will positively impact our environment
  • You have experience working with high performing engineering teams who have a strong sense of autonomy in their technical decision making
  • You use your influence and stakeholder management skills to have wide-reaching impact
  • You love building scalable, resilient products
  • You seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge

Ideally you will have:

  • Passion about technical excellence, you’ll find a strong culture of automated testing, frequent deployments to production, and using agile practices.
  • We trust our development teams to choose their tech stacks. You’ll commonly encounter Go, Python, TypeScript, Node, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, React, Flutter, Cypress, Swift and React Native. We run our services in GCP, AWS and Azure.
  • Our cross-functional teams are product focused, and are responsible for the entirety of their product, including feature conception, coding, testing, deployment, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, alerting, setting SLOs, and support.
  • Kaluza believes in fueling human progress with clean and abundant energy for all. We were set up to always find a better way and challenge the status quo.

We want the best people

We’re keen to meet people from all walks of life — our view is that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. We want to build teams which represent a variety of experiences, perspectives and skills, and we recognise talent on the basis of merit and potential.

We understand some people may not apply for jobs unless they tick every box. But if you're excited about joining us and think you have some of what we're looking for, even if you're not 100% sure, we'd still love to hear from you.
