Job Description

We're Cruise, a self-driving service designed for the cities we love.

We’re building the world’s most advanced, self-driving vehicles to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving vehicles will help save lives, reshape cities, give back time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.

Cruisers have the opportunity to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the forefront of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there's an opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.

If you are looking to play a part in making a positive impact in the world by advancing the revolutionary work of self-driving cars, join us.

The Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (CIRT) builds detections as code, investigates cybersecurity events, leads internal security incidents and digital forensic investigations, and builds custom software solutions aimed to increase the efficiency of response.

As the team’s Staff Technical Lead Manager, you will set and drive the technical direction of the team. You will grow and manage a small team of security engineers while independently designing and implementing solutions related to complex problems spanning threat detection, cybersecurity incident response, digital forensics and automation.

This role emphasizes technical knowledge and capability over previous management experience. If you are currently a Staff engineer with deep expertise in Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR), have been successful in mentoring junior engineers and are interested in moving into management, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers with significant scope in the Detection & Response organization
  • Solve highly complex problems through the design and implementation of innovative solutions
  • Ensure engineering standard methodologies are adopted and followed, and the quality of the product offerings are at a high bar
  • Provide strong technical leadership in high-visibility security incidents and internal investigations
  • Document and present technical findings to senior leadership, up to the C-suite
  • Drive long-term planning and establish scalable processes for execution
  • Work with teams across Cruise to foster a collaborative culture
  • Embody Cruise behaviors and values: Stay Safe, Own It, Stay Focused, Seek Truth, Work Together, Be a Customer, Be Humble

What you must have:

  • Experience as an incident commander handling large-scale, persistent, sophisticated attacks in complex heterogeneous corporate environments
  • Significant experience spanning all stages of the incident response process
  • Major proficiency in digital forensics for one operating system (Windows, macOS or Linux), and moderate proficiency in one other
  • Proficiency in volatile memory acquisition and analysis
  • Experience writing code in a production environment
  • Demonstrated history of mentoring junior engineers in DFIR
  • Track record of shipping well-polished reports to an executive audience; exemplary communications skills when interfacing with leadership-level stakeholders
  • Experience with deployment, operations, and maintenance of open-source and commercial digital forensic tools

Bonus points!

  • Experience managing teams and initiatives in a fast-paced engineering organization
  • Industry-leading SANS certifications, including GCFA, GCFE, and GNFA
  • Experience in malware reverse engineering and analysis
