Job Description

About Fyto

At Fyto, we are partnering with farmers to build a sustainable food system at a global scale. Launched out of MIT in 2019, we have developed a robotics platform that grows the world’s most productive crops to feed people, plants, and animals. Our ground-breaking systems use much less energy, water, land, labor, and fertilizer than conventional approaches. Want to grow with us? We believe in helping you apply your talents in new and innovative ways. Join our team of engineers, scientists, and business professionals to create solutions to today’s most challenging issues.

About the Role

We’re seeking an exceptionally organized and motivated Engineering Project Manager to lead the planning, buildout, and commissioning of our commercial-scale agricultural operations. The ideal candidate is driven to build a more sustainable future in farming – to help food producers as well as the planet. You should be comfortable with managing various phases of site development for Fyto including site assessment, system design and layout, permitting processes, vendor management, team coordination, and project documentation. We need someone who will enthusiastically lead the efforts (in collaboration with our team) to deliver safe, effective, and compliant operations as we scale. This position is currently based in Petaluma, CA, with some travel required to potential and future Fyto operations. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and are subject to a background check.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the planning, site layout, construction, and commissioning efforts for Fytofarm sites
  • Obtain necessary permits, approvals, and other regulatory requirements related to projects
  • Identify utility needs and obtain necessary approvals
  • Support continuous improvement efforts across projects, identifying and addressing gaps and opportunities
  • Source and manage vendors, suppliers, and workers to get our farms built
  • Build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders including farmers, local officials, vendors, and suppliers

Your required qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering or similar
  • 5+ years of professional experience in Engineering Project Management with an in-depth understanding of the end-to-end process including planning and permitting
  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as with a team
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and ability to adjust workload based on changing priorities
  • Ability to thrive in the occasional ambiguity and roller-coaster ride of a startup environment
  • Owner mindset – willing to pitch in on everything to help the company succeed
  • Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Physical activity requirements

  • Walk across a variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces
  • Climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and install equipment
  • Stand for extended time periods
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs. but occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in conditions with varying humidity, sunlight and temperatures (32 o – 95oF depending on the season)
