We’re also developing novel financing structures to support local communities as they undertake restoration projects. We’re a unique mix of foresters, technology experts, and creative communicators brought together by our common mission. Learn more at terraformation.com.  Job MissionTerraformation is hiring a Senior Forester to help plan global afforestation and reforestation projects around the world.  Terraformation’s overall mission is to have 1 trillion trees planted by 2030.  Terraformation’s Forestry team is at the center of our company and the Senior Forester plays a critical role in support of our mission by:
Planning, leading and supporting qualified forestry and ecological restoration partners around the world. In addition, this role will contribute forestry expertise to partner projects and align with Terraformation’s goals so that together, we are able to plant 1 Trillion trees in the next 10 years 
Location: Remote; worldwide

Responsibilities for this role include:

• Plan profitable forestry projects and restoration projects with companies, groups, and organizations that are already doing, or want to do new reforestation, afforestation, agroforestry or silviculture projects
• Develop contracts in collaboration with internal teams to develop global forestry partnerships, standards and projects
• Determine the ability of partners to fulfill project objectives 
• Determine and negotiate scope of projects including species selection, seed banking, planting methods, monitoring methods, maintenance and stewardship, bottlenecks and challenges
• Liaise with external network as needed to determine appropriate native, biodiverse fulfillment needs per project location
• Anticipated travel approximately 2-3 times per year
• Ability to work in a fast paced start-up environment

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters in Forestry or equivalent work experience
• 7+ years of Forestry experience - with a strong background in native forest restoration and conservation
• Extensive on the ground experience in the following land use systems: ecological and native reforestation, forestry and agroforestry, silviculture, silvopasture and sustainable landscape design
• Knowledge of ethnobotany, seed collection and banking
• Strong project planning and management experience in international and developing countries - especially within the tropics 
• Experience working with assessing taxonomic and ecological appropriateness that is site specific
• Experience working with communities, landowners and other groups doing restoration and sustainable land development/management
• Knowledge of production forestry (timber harvesting sustainable vs industrial)
• Experience working in wildfire management, drought conditions and invasive/pest management
