The ultimate goal of Operation Tomorrow Space is to collect and downlink real-time weather data to be integrated seamlessly into Tomorrow.io’s existing forecasting and modeling systems. Global weather coverage will not only revolutionize global weather intelligence, but will also provide lifesaving weather information to 5 billion people across the globe who currently don’t have access to radar coverage.

We are looking for a Systems Engineer who will support the development of a unique satellite variant within Tomorrow.io’s greater satellite constellation architecture. This role spans the full breadth of a spacecraft development program including initial concept design, detailed spacecraft subsystem analysis, and management of subcontractors. We are launching our first satellites soon, with many future constellation launches planned for 2024 and beyond. This position is right for you if you want to work with a world class team who are excited about their mission, see your products through to on-orbit operation, and make a positive impact on the world.

What you’ll do:

  • Be a core contributor within a team of highly capable engineers and subcontractors to develop a constellation of satellites
  • Support spacecraft architecture definition, design trades, and specification creation
  • Develop and maintain spacecraft systems engineering artifacts including technical budgets, detailed analyses, interface documentation, etc.
  • Support verification and validation planning and execution throughout various test campaigns
  • Manage top-tier subcontractors to hit program milestones and objectives
  • Ultimately, support the delivery and launch of your satellites up through on-orbit operations

What you bring:

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, which must include specific contributions to spacecraft development, test, and/or operations
  • Experience with complex payloads and their associated interfaces to the spacecraft bus
  • Experience with development of technical budgets for vehicle performance
  • Experience with requirements/verification process
  • Thorough understanding of spacecraft subsystems and their associated components, with detailed design experience desired in one of avionics, power, propulsion, RF, thermal, or ADCS/GNC
  • Thorough understanding of the space environment, including orbital mechanics, rigid body dynamics, thermal environment & design methods, and radiation environment and design methods.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation for spacecraft, including tools such as STK and Malab/Python
  • Experience with spacecraft testing from component-level through AIT

Desired:

  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field
  • Experience with RF payloads, such as communications or radar (antennas and electronics)
  • Experience in a startup or small company/team environment
  • Experience with satellite constellation architecture, development, or operations

This position requires access to technology that is controlled under U.S. export control laws and regulations. Accordingly, this position is restricted to U.S. citizens, permanent residents and protected individuals unless and until any required licenses are obtained.

Anticipated salary range is $140K-$160K, subject to local market and a candidate’s skills and experience. Health, leave and other benefits included.
