Job Description

Our Mission   SPAN develops products that accelerate the rapid adoption of renewable energy in the home. The flagship SPAN Smart Panel is the first true evolution of the traditional home electric panel, harnessing enhanced technology for metering, monitoring, and control. An expanded product suite of intelligent, integrated solutions radically lowers the cost and complexity of energy upgrades–including solar, batteries, and EVs–empowering homeowners to be active, resilient, and informed players in the energy market.    The Role The SPAN engineering team is made of experienced, passionate people with expertise in electronics, mechanical design, energy systems, and embedded software. We are seeking a passionate electrical engineering student to join the hardware development team of SPAN. As an electrical engineering intern, you will apply your knowledge of electrical and PCB design and manufacturing processes to assist Span’s hardware design, testing, and manufacturing efforts.   In this role, you will:
  • Create electrical prototypes and own them from concept, design, and manufacturing to testing.
  • Create schematics and layouts for these electrical designs in Altium.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams such as mechanical engineering, software engineering, firmware engineering, and product to define requirements.
  • Read datasheets and analyze electrical component specifications for part selection.
  • Build prototype components and assemblies and perform tests related to compliance, environmental, and reliability with appropriate documentation for the same
About You Required Qualifications We are seeking an electrical engineer who is:
  • Working towards a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Successfully completed introductory-level courses in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Able to write and analyze design documentation.
  • Excited about digging into complex problems and seeing them through to solutions.
  • Passionate about renewable energy and energy storage!
Bonus Qualifications We would love to hire someone who has:
  • Experience designing for solar or renewable energy applications.
  • Hands-on experience with mixed signal circuit design including tests and simulations.
  • Experience with high-level coding languages such as Python for scripting or data analysis.
  • Experience writing or interfacing with low-level languages in a device firmware context.

The hourly wage for this position is $30/hour.
