About the Role:  

Planet is constantly working on next generation systems and space platforms and we are seeking a Spacecraft NPI Applications Engineer to support Planet’s current and next generation spacecraft development and manufacturing. You will be the front-facing engineer to support the aforementioned teams with their day to day needs and work in the back-end on  process improvements and developing tools.

What You Bring:

  • Provide daily support to the engineers, administration, automation and configuration for a variety of engineering applications, including but not limited to, Mechanical & Electrical CAD/PDM Systems, PLM, Simulation/Computing Systems and Integrated Systems.
  • Act as the first point of contact for problem resolution and resolve key systemic production issues or address requests.
  • Diagnose and solve a range of issues, including, but not limited to software deployment, installation & setup, licenses, general 3D modeling, drafting, assembly and hardware-related issues.
  • Provide resolution to technical support issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Develop workarounds and operating techniques when needed and communicate them to customers.
  • Develop automation tools for repetitive design/simulation tasks.
  • Provide following support for Engineering Systems.
    • Creating user accounts, assigning to the groups, updating workflows, executing ECO’s, creating parts, BOM’s, AML’s.
    • Managing Solidworks part and drawing templates, introducing best practices, identifying & developing automation tools.
    • Helping users installing, client setup, connection issues, workflow issues, data correction and process improvements.
    • Import and export data into/from systems.
    • Run the scripts to bulk data creation, testing and migration.
    • Scripting experience and skills (Python, VB, .NET) are preferred.
  • Create/Update user training material, Wiki and FAQs for repetitive user issues.
  • Document test cases for system integration testing and UAT.
  • Maintain close relationships with the software resellers and vendors for issue resolution, training needs and onboarding new tools.
  • Identify and drive CAD/PLM process improvements. Work with internal systems teams to implement system enhancements in support of operational efficiency and efficacy gains.
  • Scaling systems and processes, researching and on-boarding tools and lead training efforts.
  • Understanding and experience in Supply Chain, Logistics and Manufacturing Execution is a plus.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree with 3-5 years of industry experience in one or more of the following fields: Product Development, New Product Introduction (NPI) or Manufacturing Operations or any related Engineering field.
  • Experience working with hardware engineering and manufacturing operations teams
  • Define BOM structures, release parts and execute ECO’s.
  • Knowledge of the hardware development lifecycle phases.
  • Experience with the define and drive use cases for CAD and PLM solutions implementations. 
  • Experience in any scripting/programming languages.
  • CAD Automation Tools development experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of MRP and MES systems scores extra points.
  • Proven ability to work and thrive in a fast paced and time sensitive environment while maintaining a high level of detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Cross-functional team player and ability to work closely with all product groups.
  • Work on multiple projects and tasks at a time with the ability to effectively prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and job functions
