Raptor Maps is a fast-growing, venture-backed, MIT-born climate tech startup that is building software to enable the solar energy industry to scale. Parties across the entire solar lifecycle use Raptor Maps’ data model to manage ever growing utility-scale solar portfolios. We are an industry leader with hundreds of customers, including owners, builders, operators, and aerial service providers, across over 40 countries with 200+ million solar panels under management. As the Operations Manager for the Data Team, you will be responsible for managing the team that coordinates all data collection processes at Raptor Maps. You will work with customers and vendors as well as internally with sales, project management, marketing, and product. The Data Team is responsible for scheduling drone flights, bidding data collection projects, holding vendors accountable to quick moving timelines, evaluating and supporting new data collection methods and hardware, and providing technical support to customers. To effectively manage this team, you will be responsible for quickly learning and improving team processes, including coaching the team on managing customer and subcontractor relationships. It is critical to have excellent communication skills (both verbally and written).
Prior titles held may include Operations Manager, Project Manager, Program Manager, or Engineering/Product Manager.
Specific interests and talents include, but are not limited to organization of complex systems with many moving parts, process and tool design and optimization, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), and the global transition to renewable energy. Note that the majority of this role does not involve field work or hands-on drone operation.

Responsibilities

  • Directly managing a team responsible for all data collection efforts at Raptor Maps
  • Leading overall data collection strategy to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure smooth customer experiences
  • Assisting with large project management, including making critical decisions regarding customer service and prioritization, subject to complex schedule constraints
  • Assisting in forecasting and budgeting for staffing or subcontractor considerations
  • Sourcing, developing, and maintaining relationships with subcontractors and helping the Data Managers with complex negotiations
  • Providing technical decision making guidance to the team
  • Maintaining and improving required documentation for operations that includes certificates of insurance, safety protocols, emergency procedures, subcontractor contact lists, and contract documents
  • Staying up to date on the latest drone and solar data collection technology
  • Experimenting with and managing execution of innovative initiatives or projects to advance data collection operations
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of future Data Managers

Qualifications

  • 2+ years people management and professional development experience
  • Expert at establishing and re-evaluating priorities for yourself and your team members
  • 2+ years experience managing multiple subcontractors and project timelines, including strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, changing work environment
  • Experience working in an often highly technical and precise field
  • Expert in using the Office and Google Suites, especially Excel/Google Sheets
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must be primarily located in the contiguous US
  • Must be authorized to work in the US

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a startup, especially in a leadership and management role
  • Hands on experience and expertise flying drones with automated flight planning software
  • Prior professional experience in the solar industry
