Job Description

Volta's award-winning charging stations benefit brands, consumers, and real-estate locations by providing valuable advertising space to businesses and convenient charging to drivers. Strategically located in places consumers already visit, Volta's chargers are currently the most used electric vehicle charging stations in the United States.

 

The Opportunity at Volta Charging

 The Vice President, Tax serves as the organization’s Head of Tax and as a member of the senior Finance management team. You’ll drive impact at Volta by managing the tax affairs of our organization, including managing the protection of company funds, anticipating the company’s tax needs, and preparing tax for financial reports. We’ll also look to you to advise on M&A, international structuring, and deals.

In your first 90 days, you will

  • Drive creation of company tax strategy as we migrate to profits and continue to grow
  • Lead the charge in influencing and implementing tax policy in the U.S. and abroad, engaging with policymakers to shape tax outcomes
  • Full ownership of the global income tax provision
  • Collaborate with senior executives across the company to understand their plans to then incorporate into the creation and implementation of our ongoing tax strategy
  • Manage global cash tax and rate forecast for multiple legal entities domiciled in North America, and Europe
  • Identify foreign taxation issues while providing ongoing advice and guidance concerning global tax accounting and reporting, including VAT
  • Manage transfer pricing and intercompany arrangements
  • Manage sales and use tax compliance, oversee local tax resources, and provide assistance in federal and state tax returns, tax accounting, and reporting
  • Own the management of tax return process and coordinating correspondence with outside CPA firms
  • Drive ongoing improvement of tax processes with a focus on efficiency and automation – help us achieve our future of finance goal, which is our long-term strategy and vision to digitize finance and ensure meaningful work for our employees
  • Manage tax audits
  • Develop strategy and go forward perspective of optimal mix across in-source vs out-source with tax team; strive for best in class mix across different tax engagement models

After twelve months, you will have accomplished:

  • Directing a comprehensive Tax program, including performance, strategic, operational, and financial
  • Providing problem solving services to the organization’s management
  • Developing the Tax strategy and the related plans to execute on the strategy
  • Continuously strengthening a leading edge Tax team and establishing a fitting Tax organization and structure at all times, providing ongoing training and coaching professionals in the team
  • Educating business leaders in the company on balancing entrepreneurship with enhanced risk and control culture and discipline
  • Constantly innovate to ensure the Tax function is always relevant and a source of inspiration internally and externally

What you bring to Volta Charging:

  • Strategic senior tax leader with experience guiding a global tax organization and leading on tax matters
  • Strong tax experience in income tax, international and M&A tax
  • Experience driving operational aspects of tax including tax provision, tax compliance, international tax planning, and M&A
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, inspire and effectively guide a global organization
  • Extensive understanding of global taxation issues
  • Experience in cash tax and tax rate calculations (GAAP and non-GAAP), forecasting, and reporting, including building and maintaining a cash flow and tax rate forecast
  • Strong experience with tax provision and tax accounting
  • Very strong experience with international transfer pricing and VAT
  • Ability to build relationships with excellent communication skills to integrate the requirements of multiple site locations into the tax function
  • Connection to Volta’s mission, values and ways we work; ability to support, communicate and reinforce the philosophy and culture of the organization
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Tax or Accounting; CPA preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20 percent of the time, occasionally on international flights
  • Detailed knowledge of financial legislation and practices
  • Accuracy when computing and managing numbers
  • Detail-oriented and ability to envision all aspects of tax from large scale to minute
  • Proven leadership and decision-making abilities in a business setting
