About the Role:  

As the Product Manager, Analysis Ready Data (ARD), you are responsible for the strategy and development of Planet ARD products generated from Planet’s core imagery. You will design, specify and build Planet’s core ARD offering focused on time series analysis and focus on the next generation of ARD products to grow the capabilities of derived datasets.

You will be primarily responsible for understanding the end user application of ARD products and drive expansion of offerings to include integrating third party datasets. You will define the requirements needed to generate ARD through various computational processes and raster based toolchains guided by competitive market definitions of analysis ready level processing.

You will partner with an Engineering Manager and a full development team to prototype and scale Planet’s current and future ARD products. In addition this team, you must coordinate closely with: 

  • Core Imagery PM’s and software teams to ensure ARD is productionized in support of complementary image quality improvements.
  • Platform team to define end to end generation and delivery of products to end users through various avenues.
  • Sales and Product Marketing to understand customer needs and how to ensure our ARD products support their workflows and on-demand production needs.
  • Broader engineering teams to understand Planet’s tech stack and the art of the possible for next generation ARD products, and to influence Planet’s R&D roadmap.
  • Fusion R&D team to ensure alignment between scaling and efficiency efforts with next gen algorithm development.
  • Ensure consistent execution of product lifecycle process from concept to launch through management of people and projects.
  • Set project priorities and work through team leads to advance projects from development through implementation.

You will work very closely with the other imagery product managers as well as engineering teams to clearly articulate requirements and priorities. In addition, you will look to customers and customer-facing teams to gather feedback on our core imagery products. You will proactively engage across Product Management and Engineering to ensure ARD dependencies outside your direct control are represented in the product roadmap. The current maturity of ARD means you will continue to refine and clarify standardization and delivery of datasets with the software engineering and platform teams. In addition, you will work with the imagery pipeline engineering team to develop the proper data processing pipeline.

Most importantly, you will ensure excellent product-market-fit for Planet’s Analysis Ready Data and the next generation of derived products. This requires tight coordination across the broader go-to-market team and relentless drive to create a customer-centric, sustainable and profitable business. 

Product Management is not the direct supervisor of their engineering teams. Thus, to be effective, you must demonstrate a strong commitment to Planet’s cultural values, agile principles and leadership through influence to succeed in this role.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Building an end-to-end product from production to delivery.
  • Ensure that the capabilities of the product meets the needs of the market with a viable business model.
  • Work across the go-to-market team to ensure the proper business model alignment.
  • Work with the VP of Imagery and Analytics Products on strategic initiatives for future product ideation.
  • Accountable for ensuring that ARD product development is clearly represented in Planet’s commercial, technical and product roadmap
  • Acts as Planet’s ambassador for ARD to potential partners, customers and internal stakeholders

What You Bring:

  • Experience with remote sensing time series analysis and data structures.
  • 5+ years as an end user of satellite imagery for remote sensing and GIS applications.
  • 3-5 years experience as a product manager.
  • Previous experience with imagery catalog design and data formats, with a strong intuitive grasp on foundational data structures that can build complex products.
  • The ability to operate effectively and decisively in an information rich environment with minimal guidance and extended autonomy.
  • The ability to make decisions that align with Planet’s technical and strategic roadmap as well as Planet’s core values.
  • A strong interpersonal skill set where team alignment can consistently be delivered and maintained.

Compensation (only applicable for Colorado applicants):

The base pay range targeted for this position in Colorado is: $116,100 - $187,200. This role is eligible for equity.

The actual offer, including the compensation package, is determined based on multiple factors, including experience, location, and other business considerations.

Planet is registered as an employer in many, but not all, states. If you are not able to work from a state where Planet is registered, you will not be eligible for employment.
