SUMMARY

Nexamp is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our growing Energy Storage team and help Nexamp lead the charge in the rapidly evolving energy storage market. In this role, based in our Boston office, the Applications Engineer will support the development of solar and energy storage projects by providing technical expertise on the evaluation, design, and interconnection of front of the meter and behind the meter energy storage projects ranging from the distributed to utility scale. Working closely with Nexamp’s Energy Storage Product Manager and reporting to the Director of Energy Storage, the Applications Engineer will evaluate new energy storage technologies and product offerings and interface with Nexamp’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Asset Management teams to support the design, delivery, and operation of successful projects. Candidates should have energy industry experience, a baseline knowledge of solar and storage applications, in depth knowledge of energy storage technology and vendors, and the desire to learn quickly in a fast-paced work environment. Candidates should be self-driven, able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, and comfortable interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with Nexamp’s development teams, interface with potential customers to understand storage needs and requirements to formulate optimized storage solutions
  • Manage the development of energy storage analysis and modeling tools in consultation with Nexamp’s Business Development, Asset Management, Market Strategy & Analytics, and Development, Product & IT teams
  • Support the design and implementation of microgrids, non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologies
  • Review single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirements
  • Support the review, analysis, and interpretation of utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, and Interconnection Service Agreements
  • Support procurement of energy storage systems, equipment, and software and ensure compliance to standards and required specifications
  • Interface with Nexamp’s Electrical Engineering, Design Engineering, SCADA Engineering, Grid Integration, Strategic Sourcing, Asset Management, and Business Development teams on projects at varying stages of the project life cycle
  • Follow changes in the storage market and evaluate potential value that different offerings can bring to Nexamp projects

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, and a team player.

Key qualifications as follows:

  • 3+ years of experience with energy storage technology and applications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or other relevant field of study, Masters degree a plus
  • Strong understanding of storage applications and design and familiarity with system controls
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other industry standards
  • Proficiency with Salesforce, Microsoft Excel, and AutoCAD
  • Technologically savvy, ability to learn new software tools
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Equally able to work in a team setting or independently
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects and initiatives
  • Motivated, energetic, willing to learn
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
