Job Description

Design and implementation of Motion Control (Propulsion, Braking, Steering, Suspension) algorithms:o   Understand existing Motion Control system’s architecture, and the interface between the major subsystems (e.g., between Motor and Brake Control).o   Develop new and improve upon existing motion control features (e.g., EV-TCS, Regen Torque Blending, Rear Wheel Steering…), including potential architecture changes.o   Develop interaction functions between motion control and Autonomous driving, including degradation strategies.Advanced calibration and validation of Motion Control algorithmso   Develop calibration strategy and calibrate newly developed algorithms.  Then train the calibration team.o   Validate newly developed algorithms using a variety of test methods – open loop simulation, co-sim, HIL, Vehicle…, to support development iterations at system level.o   Support Calibration and Vehicle Performance Integration teams to define motion related experience in vehicle performance integration.Documentation of Motion Control algorithmso   Document all levels of requirements discovered during new algorithm development, including supporting the Systems team to document system level requirements.o   Document all levels of architecture of new algorithms, including supporting the Systems team to document system level architecture.o   Document all levels of test cases for new algorithms, including supporting the Systems/Validation team to document system level test cases.Technical Interfaceo   Develop requirements, architecture, and interfaces with suppliers.o   Interface with other teams, including suppliers and management, to trouble shoot and solve problems surrounding motion control systems.o   Present and demonstrate new and/or improved algorithms to management (or support other teams to do so).

  • o   Up to 20% of travel may be expected.
  • o   Some travel to remote test locations are needed, especially during winter.
  • o   Travel to Nio Chinese facilities are needed.

Qualifications

  • Education
  • o   Bachelor’s degree (MS or above preferred) in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or related technical fields.
  • Work Experience
  • o   The following (and above) in algorithm development for vehicle motion related control systems. Experience in tier one brake, engine, steering control suppliers is strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years for Engineer
  • 4+ years for Senior Engineer
  • 7+ years (or 5+ years with MS degree) for Staff Engineer
  • ·Technical Skills
  • o   Vehicle dynamics.
  • o   Control systems.
  • o   Embedded programming.
  • o   Automotive production development process.
  • · Tools
  • o   Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, C, or similar programming tools.
  • o   GIT, Jira, or similar version control tools and issue tracking tools.
  • o   In-vehicle measurement and post-processing tools (e.g., INCA)
  • o   Simulation tools (e.g., CarSim, VI-grade) and HIL environment.
  • o   MS Office.

  • o   Experience working with both English and Chinese speaking teams, with global time differences is strongly preferred.
  • o   Experience working cross functionally with other teams such as Systems is desired.
  • o   Problem solving and teamwork skills.
