Boston Government Services has an open Marine Energy Environmental Monitoring Position.

This position will help directly support the Department of Energy’s (DOE) office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) in project management activities, including, but not limited to, Funding Opportunity Announcements, project management, and technical support for competitively selected cooperative agreements. Support involves daily interactions with internal parties such as legal, contracting, NEPA, and communications, as well as external communication with project recipients in academia, private industry, and National Laboratories.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Advise on potential environmental risks of the development and deployment of marine energy (wave, tidal, current, and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) projects, including underwater noise, changes in habitat, electromagnetic fields, and collision risk.
  • Contribute to the development of new research initiatives to advance the state-of-the-art and serve as a technology expert to evaluate technology area portfolios, conduct gap analysis, and develop strategic roadmaps.
  • Develop R&D approaches/strategies to novel data methods and applications for monitoring environmental impacts, such as machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Assist in the management of a portfolio of R&D projects.
  • Contribute to the planning of new funding programs, including concept development, requirements documents, workshops development and facilitation, funding opportunity drafting, merit review evaluations, briefings, and award negotiations.
  • Engage with stakeholders on an appropriate level to ensure needs and gaps are being addressed where possible at the Federal level.
  • Develop and contribute to technical communications (reports, white papers, fact sheets, research summaries, briefings).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine science and/or oceanography or related degrees such as environmental engineering, environmental science, and biology.
  • Knowledge of experimental design for biological/ecological applications
  • Knowledge of common statistical analyses used in biology and ecology
  • Ability to understand and prioritize potential environmental risks of marine energy deployments to develop and implement a comprehensive environmental strategy to proactively de-risk future deployments
  • Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter and ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team.
  • 5 years of experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the marine energy regulatory process.
  • Experience with Ecological modeling or Impacts of Electromagnetic Fields on wildlife
  • Familiarity with common oceanographic, environmental monitoring methodologies and technologies

Salary Range: $75-110,000
