We support clients at every stage, from strategic planning and program management to the execution of engineering and technical activities. We work to attract and retain the best talent because the best talent delivers the best results for our clients. Our capabilities are based on our experience in complex, secure, and highly regulated environments. The Manufacturing and Competitiveness Team supports entrepreneurs and companies in developing and commercializing new solar technologies that can grow and diversify the U.S. solar industry, increase U.S. competitiveness in solar energy manufacturing, and advance progress toward the carbon-free power sector by 2035. The selected candidate will interface with SETO staff, U.S. industry, and R&D organizations, including national labs and academia, to help companies with promising solar technologies survive the funding gaps that often emerge in the development cycle of new technologies.

    • In the development, execution, and management of new funding programs that provide funding to innovative teams seeking to advance their solutions from an early stage to manufacturing at scale.
    • For strategic planning and SETO participation in cross-cutting activities involving other programs in EERE, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Federal Government.
  • Prepare scientific/technical material for and participate in stakeholder engagement forums such as conferences, symposiums, business and technical interchange meetings that may include government representatives, academia and industry partners.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning, research idea formulation/execution, cost/benefits analyses, technical progress assessments and technology transfer efforts.
  • Assist in reviews of application materials, provide thoughtful comments and complete pre-screening of related documents on behalf of the government customer to support current and future competitive solicitations.
  • Assist the government team with the synthesis of information flow from Federal Contract Managers and Industry Partnerships, support decision-making, and ensure execution of directives at Federal offices, National Laboratories, and industry partnership organizations.
  • Conduct research and prepare technical briefings, white papers, or related deliverables as assigned.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working in the public and/or private sectors to de-risk new technologies, bring prototypes to a pre-commercial stage, transfer technologies to high-volume manufacturing, and/or retire business or market risks to raise early-stage capital and to spur follow-on private investments and job creation.
  • Advanced knowledge of business methods and program management practices applicable to the start-up and/or high-volume manufacturing stage of clean-tech products and/or commercializing solar power technologies.
  • A fundamental background in a physical science or engineering discipline relevant to the manufacturing of solar power technologies.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to support the management of a dynamic portfolio of many projects/programs ensuring all major priority items are accomplished on time and according to plan.
  • Knowledge of workforce needs of the solar industry and workforce development programs, strategies, and tools to support the development of a diverse and skilled solar workforce.
  • Ability to perform both as an individual contributor as well as a member of the diverse SETO team.
