Boston Government Services has a need for a Water Power Technical Project Monitor.

This position will help directly support the Department of Energy’s (DOE) office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) in project management activities, including, but not limited to, Funding Opportunity Announcements, project management, and technical support for competitively selected cooperative agreements.  Support involves daily interactions with internal parties such as legal, contracting, NEPA, and communications, as well as external communication with project recipients in academia, private industry, and National Laboratories.

The position will directly support EERE’s Water Power Technologies Office’s (WPTO) mission to advance cutting-edge technology to modernize the U.S. hydropower fleet and drive U.S. leadership in new ocean and river energy, with the goal of delivering low-cost power and resiliency to the nation’s power grids. The position will provide recommendations and advice on system development, improvements, and optimization. An ideal candidate will have project management experience and experience with research, development, and deployment of innovative hydropower technologies.  Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with project management, performance monitoring, documentation, and progress assessment for WPTO-funded projects.
  • Support the development, coordination, and management of competitive solicitations and merit reviews
  • Engage with hydropower and marine hydrokinetic industry stakeholders appropriately to ensure needs and gaps are being addressed where possible.
  • Assist in developing internal briefing materials for decision-makers, and contribute to a technical review of external communications. 
  • Successfully represent the program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners. 

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering or Scientific discipline.
  • 5 plus years of experience.
  • Professional attitude.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated independent problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, the ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to actively track and monitor government-funded research and development projects.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Experience working within DOE EERE.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter, the ability to work both independently and as part of a highly dynamic collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of sources of renewable energy, principles of renewable energy generation and storage, power conversion, modeling, simulation, and analysis.

Salary Range: $75,000-$95,000
