Job Description

At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We are a passionate team working together toward a sustainable future, solving high-impact problems that have never been solved before. By delivering everyday flight for everyone, we're making it possible to spend less time getting there and more time being there. If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on!
We are seeking a Staff Composites Structural Analyst to join our team developing our next generation electric-powered aircraft.  You will work closely with other team members, including design, manufacturing, and test engineers, to develop and validate designs for the airframe and other composite components.  Your responsibilities will consist of: performing analyses and supporting testing to demonstrate the structural integrity and performance of the designs; developing and documenting structural analysis methods and procedures related to composites; and coordinating the activities of other composites structural analysts.
Specific tasks you will perform include: using closed form and other analytical solutions to support conceptual and preliminary design activities; building, running, and post-processing finite element models of various levels of fidelity to simulate the response of designs to static, cyclic, and transient dynamic loads; using FEA and other methods to calculate loads and margins of safety; supporting structural tests at various scales by defining test plans, monitoring tests, and evaluating test data; and providing suggested design modifications to the design teams to improve the designs.

Within 1 month you will:

  • Get to know the team
  • Shadow design engineers, manufacturing engineers, technicians, and other analysts to become familiar with the aircraft
  • Become functional in our FEA, CAD, and PLM tools

Within 3 months you will:

  • Continue learning about the aircraft and subsystem assemblies
  • Become proficient in our FEA tools
  • Take ownership of new design and analysis projects
  • Understand and apply loads sourced from internal loads documents and global FEA models
  • Work with design engineers to develop and improve part and assembly designs

Within 6 months you will:

  • Reach a high level of familiarity with the aircraft and subassemblies like wings, fuselage, empennage, and the equipment carried within
  • Troubleshoot issues discovered during testing and production of hardware

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience performing structural analysis of composite components for high performance applications
  • Strong understanding of composites engineering fundamentals (mechanics of materials, classical lamination theory, material property characterization, design best practices, analysis methods, manufacturing processes)
  • Familiar with commercial FEA software such as NASTRAN, Abaqus, ANSYS, or similar
  • Experience with structural testing of composite components or assemblies
  • Experience supporting composites production manufacturing, including the disposition of hardware non-conformances

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering
  • Experience performing structural analysis to support airframe conceptual and detailed design
  • Experience working with other engineers to improve the manufacturability of a product (Design for Manufacturing) while controlling cost and weight
  • Composites design or hands-on composites manufacturing experience
  • Familiar with CAD software such as NX (preferred), Fibersim (preferred), Solidworks, CATIA, or similar
  • Experience using Product Lifecycle Management software
