Job Description

Lumen Energy is automating clean energy deployment across the built environment.  The scope of the opportunity is massive: The roughly 6 million commercial buildings in the US are responsible for 16% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Most of them could save money and reduce emissions with solar, yet fewer than 4% have solar in place today.
We leverage breakthroughs in software and data science to uncover the economically ideal “clean energy stack” for every building. Next, we make clean energy deployment widely accessible by abstracting away the complexity of an underlying marketplace of installers, financiers and confusing electrical jargon, creating a delightful, software driven experience for customers to simply click to deploy clean energy.
While this is an audacious scope, we believe that the combination of our powerful clean energy pricing engine, together with the end-to-end tools for deploying and managing clean energy, will unlock the clean energy transition from vision to action in commercial real estate.
About this role
At its core, our product helps sophisticated real estate asset managers and investors understand the economic implications of installing clean energy. We're hiring a core team member who will help us across all areas of finance, including within our product. You will own financial models and collaborate with real estate investor-partners to deploy commercial clean energy projects across their portfolios. You'll also help our founders steer the company by owning the corporate financial model and navigating fundraising processes. Over time, we expect this role to expand to address more strategic opportunities for the company.
About you
You’re eager for the opportunity to make an outsized impact on our company and the way buildings get energy. You’re equally comfortable engaging in high-level strategic questions and building clean, detailed financial models. You eat array formulas and macros for breakfast. You're highly analytical, and ready to tackle whatever is most crucial for the company to scale. If you thrive on autonomy, want to be part of a fast-moving, quickly growing company, and are excited about our mission, we would love to meet you.
Who We Are
We are a small team of scientists, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs committed to powering our world with clean energy.  We build on experience at Stripe, Google X, Shopify, and US national labs.  While we're early in our journey, we are live with customers, funded by exceptional investors including Lowercarbon Capital and Designer Fund, and are supported by Third Derivative, the leading climate-tech accelerator program.
We are a remote-first company, although we have regular (but optional) get-togethers in San Francisco, as well quarterly team offsites. We seek and celebrate diverse perspectives and are committed to building a company and culture that reflects the diversity of the world around us. We are looking for kind, collaborative and mission-driven teammates who work within 3 time zones of Pacific Time.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and extend project finance and corporate financial models
  • Collaborate with data science, customer success, and engineering to identify and propel profitable opportunities to deploy clean energy
  • Work with both commercial real estate and funding partners to secure and deploy capital projects
  • Support our founders on other strategic, financial opportunities as they arise

Requirements

  • 5+ years of finance experience, including experience in project finance (e.g. renewables, real estate)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership. You’re a scrappy self-starter who can acknowledge mistakes, fix them, and learn from them in short cycles
  • A track record of success in fast-paced settings on a high-performing team
  • Excellent analytical capabilities and financial modeling skills
  • Experience building and maintaining corporate financial models and conducting analyses to evaluate and support company growth initiatives
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working well across teams and with external partners

Nice to have, but not required

  • Past experience within a high growth technology company
  • Past experience in distributed energy
  • Experience working directly with product and engineering teams

We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
