Head of Operations

Dispatch Goods is a female-founded reverse logistics company searching for a person to fulfill the Head of Operations role. We are on a mission to eliminate packaging waste by designing and building the technology and infrastructure for reuse. We partner with many large D2C companies, restaurants, and brands to support the logistics of reuse by collecting, sorting and sanitizing, and redistributing products that can be reused.

The Head of Operations is an incredibly important role that is crucial to the business as we build for scale. This is the opportunity to get on the ground floor of a fast-growing start-up backed by strong investors in the climate and traditional venture space. Ideally, candidate is located either in the San Francisco Bay Area or DC/Baltimore.

Responsibilities

The Head of Operations will be responsible for overseeing our operations at our two warehouse processing centers: in SF Bay Area and in DC/Baltimore Area. This person will be responsible for assessing boots-on-the-ground processing systems, looking for opportunities to optimize and reduce cost, and working to improve the reuse rate. They will work closely with the warehouse team, project managers, and warehouse management in order to launch new and improved systems and technology.

Additionally, the Head of Processing Operations will be a Leadership Role, reporting directly to the CEO. He or she must be able to zoom out, understand the business needs, most effective places to implement changes, and where technology investment should occur. This person may be ambitious and work to grow into a Director of Operations or COO role over time. Responsibilities include:

• Lead warehouse team members in efficient sorting, processing, cleaning, packing and inventory management system
• Work with team to set quality and output expectations
• The ability to create daily processing goals on an item level, dependent on products returned
• The ability to build for scale and create playbooks for our next market launches
• Work closely with tech team to build custom software and hardware solutions that allow for data visibility without increased labor costs
• Join strategy, leadership, and board meetings to present opportunities for improvement, track processing KPIs, and review cost savings based on new systems
• Travel up to 50% (will likely decrease over time)
• Financial modeling for warehouse operations, oversight of market-specific P&Ls, and strong understanding of unit economics is essential

Qualifications

• Manufacturing or warehouse processing systems improvement design and implementation
• BS or BA preferable, particularly in (but not limited to)systems or industrial engineering, operations and/or logistics, processing analytics
• Ability to "roll up sleeves" and work on a granular level, and then zoom out to high level strategic thinking
