Founding Engineer (Co-founder)

We are looking for a Head of Engineering (or Chief Technology Officer) to lead the development of a platform to help investors and technology companies to achieve their climate and social goals.

This is a great opportunity to apply your engineering expertise to lead an up-and-coming startup in climate tech. You will be spearheading the technical development the product, informing best practices, building a team, and communicating the technology strategy with different stakeholders. As a Head of Engineering, you will be a strategic partner in defining and building the first product from concept to implementation. NYC preferred location, but open to remote.

Kara is a software platform to empower investors and technology companies to achieve their climate and social goals.

The problem that we are solving is that investors (LPs and GPs), governments, and a whole new generation of consumers are increasingly asking if their capital is building the world that they want to see: Are our investments helping solve our climate crisis? What's the diversity of the leadership of our portfolio companies? Are there any practices within the companies that are not responsible?

Starting with venture capital investors, the platform measures the ESG and impact performance of a portfolio of companies, while extracting insights on both individual companies and an aggregated portfolio, making the results easy to share with LPs and other stakeholders. The platform is framework agnostic (SFDR, UN PRI, UN SDGs, Net Zero, SASB, etc), but it has a set of data that is uniform throughout to be able to set benchmarks and compare metrics.

Responsibilities

• Develop the first product of the company, from concept to implementation, ensuring alignment with business goals
• Define, hire and manage the founding engineering team
• Translate customer insights into product specifications and tech specs
• Build quality assurance and data protection processes
• Monitor KPIs and technology budgets
• Ensuring technologies are used efficiently, profitably, and securely
• Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
• Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Head of Engineering, or leadership role in a high performing software company
• Leadership, organizational and team-building abilities
• Sensibility towards product, customer insights, and MVP definition
• Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy, in particular around data infrastructure
• Understanding of budgets and business-planning
• Excellent communication skills
• BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field; MBA or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
• Based primarily out of New York City (preferred, but not exclusive)
