Job Description

Brilliant Planet has an exciting opening for a BIM Engineer to support the infrastructure design for developing a 30-hectare demonstration site initially followed by a series of 1,000-hectare commercial sites (£100m+ ea.). The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in 3D modelling and 2D draughting of various civil engineering assets for large scale infrastructure projects, from concept through to detailed design and as-built. You would have demonstrable industry experience in setting up and maintaining common data environments in accordance with established Information Management and BIM standards. You will be skilled in the production of BIM models and CAD drawings to a high standard, with responsibility for coordinating and preparing BIM solutions for civil engineering or other related infrastructure disciplines. You will be part of the Engineering and Design team, reporting to the Chief Engineer and will work closely with all other divisions & departments, in particular the Digital Systems and Project Management Office. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing models and drawings for site development and earthworks including site preparation, grading and drainage, ditches, ponds, roads and embankments
  • Processing the topographic data (from LiDAR, satellite, ground surveys, etc.) and importing survey files, creating surfaces, preparing survey base plans and setting up design folders
  • Working primarily within the Autodesk environment, undertaking drawing and modelling for civil engineering assets typically involving general civil infrastructure and structures such as water supply and discharge canals, pipelines, pump chambers, sumps and shallow foundations, with associated site layouts, earthworks and slopes
  • Responsible for creating and implementing BIM execution plans and for the configuration of project Common Data Environment (CDEs), applying ISO19650 and BS1192 processes
  • Preparation of single line diagrams, equipment layouts, cable trench/tray layouts and lighting layouts
  • Preparation of reinforcement detailing and bar bending schedules for reinforced concrete structures
  • Undertake federation of models, model checks, clash checks and interface management, visualising model data, issue reporting and resolution
  • Discussing and resolving co-ordination issues with designers, engineers and site teams

Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering, typically HNC/HND, BTech, BEng or NVQ level 3 or above
  • 7+ years experience with advanced proficiency in producing 3D models and accompanying 2D CAD drawings for civil engineering projects using Autodesk Civils 3D, Navisworks, Infraworks and Revit
  • Knowledge and working experience of implementing relevant British and ISO industry standards such as ISO19650 and BS1192
  • Experience working with Common Data Environment platforms such as Autodesk BIM360
  • Experience in applying relevant design code requirements for reinforced concrete and structural steel detailing
  • Experience in producing single line drawings and for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and sitewide services
  • Background in construction document production and developing project templates and standards
  • Experience in producing and managing BIM Execution Plans, Project Information Standards, Information Delivery Plans, BIM data sets and project drawing lists
  • Experience of incorporation, manipulation and interrogation of survey data
  • Experience with Power Platforms (Power Bi etc), configuring dashboards and data flows to ensure data quality would be advantageous
  • Experience in the use of Dynamo, Grasshopper and Rhinocerous for parametric modelling would be advantageous.
