Job Description

We’re making zero carbon happen

We’re OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero – and it shows how we’ll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009.  Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are – we can’t wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

We’re looking for enthusiastic and talented people looking to move into the world of product. OVO Retail encompasses everything from customer facing experiences to agent tooling; supporting our members and helping them on their journey to zero carbon by bringing them the right products, at the right time, at the right price. Our teams focus on shaping, defining and delivering the digital experiences for our millions of members and our internal team.

What will I be doing?

Working as an Associate Product Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to help build digital experiences, platforms and tools. These help our customers identify, pay for and use the right products for them, in a way that suits them. At OVO you’ll work with a talented team of engineers, researchers, experience designers and analysts. You’ll build a strong understanding of your customers and people using your product.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with a team of software engineers, researchers and designers to design and create great customer experiences
  • Working with these developers to create high quality user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Managing and prioritising a backlog of work that you think will deliver maximum value to the business aligned with your objectives
  • Working closely with experience designers to understand our customers, what your product needs and how to engage with stakeholders across the business
  • Working closely with our colleagues to create user journey maps and structure your backlog appropriately
  • Leading the development of improvements that improve customer satisfaction
  • Communicating what your team is working on and key wins to other key people in the business
  • Focus on how to get ideas off the ground quickly - identifying the thinnest slice possible to get meaningful customer data
  • Get involved in our wider product community - using that as an opportunity to learn, get support from other like minded people and share learnings with the wider OVO team

Is this the job for me?

We’re looking for candidates who are willing to learn and want to learn more about the product manager role, the craft of Agile Product Ownership, how to apply User Story Mapping and Epics with guidance from more senior product managers. Work with software engineers, researchers and designers to help solve customer problems. Understand more about how the business operates - including marketing, operational and commercial drivers for change. Build an understanding of how to use research and data to drive impact and understand more about the energy sector and how we can achieve Plan Zero (our plan to drive net zero carbon living)

Ideally you will have:

  • A desire to learn and start your journey into Product Management
  • A strong customer focus and communication skills
  • A mix of commercial acumen, customer understanding and a basic understanding of software development
  • Experience of managing deliverables and stakeholders in a fast paced environment
  • Experience of analytics tools and using data to help prioritise your work
  • Are passionate about what you do and are highly driven to achieve your professional & personal goals
  • Are a team player who embraces collaboration within your team and across different teams
  • A desire to learn how to lead a team and create a culture for achieving success
  • Are passionate about solving real problems
  • Are willing to get involved and take ownership for improvements in your area
