Job Description

Impossible Foods was founded to transform the global food system and reduce the impact of climate change by making the world’s most delicious, nutritious, and sustainable meat, fish, and dairy — from plants. We’re building a rockstar team of brilliant, collaborative, mission-driven individuals who take pride in using their diverse skills to contribute to saving our planet.
Want to join the movement? You can help us solve the most urgent, important challenge facing the world today (and have fun doing it).
Be part of the Sensory & Perceptual Research (S&P) Team at Impossible Foods.  Partner with cross-functional teams to explore and understand novel and exiting ingredients, flavors and texture systems.  Work amongst S&P colleagues to develop S&P-led research to advance our understanding of human perception.

You Will:

  • Be the lead perceptual scientist on research and product development projects that result in the creation of new plant-based products.
  • Design, conduct, analyze and interpret perceptual experiments for both R&D and S&P projects. Be hands on for experiments, assisting cross-functional teams as needed to ensure rigorous, unbiased testing and analysis.
  • Proactively collaborate cross-functionally and manage multiple projects that adhere to fast timelines.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members. In time, may manage direct reports and provide career development opportunities, feedback and managerial guidance, as needed.
  • Research and develop new testing methodologies, new workflows, new ways of evaluating and assessing risk.
  • Educate on Sensory & Perceptual Research (tools, approaches, research) throughout R&D and business teams.
  • Identify gaps in current processes. Explore and implement new approaches which allow us to move faster and with improved decision-making abilities

You Have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Neurobiology, Experimental Psychology, Food Science, Biochemistry or similar field.
  • 2-5 years of experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this role.
  • Experience in statistical analyses and data visualization.
  • Passion for creating new products that meet consumers needs.
  • Strong, creative and collaborative problem solving with a growth mindset, including developing new methodologies and creative test designs.
  • Self starter with the ability to thrive and adapt in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to continuously challenge assumptions to seek innovative solutions.
  • Nice to have: People management experience with demonstrated coaching and career development. Experience working in food perception of novel flavor and texture systems.
