Job Description

Impossible Foods was founded to transform the global food system and reduce the impact of climate change by making the world’s most delicious, nutritious, and sustainable meat, fish, and dairy — from plants. We’re building a rockstar team of brilliant, collaborative, mission-driven individuals who take pride in using their diverse skills to contribute to saving our planet.
Want to join the movement? You can help us solve the most urgent, important challenge facing the world today (and have fun doing it).
We are looking for a creative and mission-aligned research associate to join our Research Discovery team. Our goal is to discover and understand the role that metabolites and lipids play in our products! We are looking for team members with proven ability to deliver outstanding technical research while pushing the envelope of their research field. A successful research associate in this position will leverage state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques (LC-MS & GC-MS) to deliver targeted and untargeted LCMS and GCMS methodologies in support of projects across the organization. An ideal candidate would have experience in Food Chemistry, flavor chemistry, sensory and perceptual research, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry, but driven and curious scientists from related fields will be considered as well.

You Will:

  • Conduct targeted and untargeted metabolomic/lipidomic analyses for projects across the organization.
  • Develop & optimize LC-MS/GC-MS methods for small molecules of interest.
  • Extract small molecules of interest from a variety of sample matrices.
  • Efficiently design, execute, and manage experiments to drive basic understanding of highly dimensional systems.
  • Partner with other research groups to interpret experimental results in the context of impactful business decisions. Be a champion for thorough science, and proactively educate and learn from others

You Have:

  • Bachelor/Master/Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of laboratory (academic and/or industrial) experience developing analytical methods for proteins and small molecules (LC, MS, GC, SEC, HTP assays, etc.).
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this role.
  • Experience using HRMS and nominal mass spectrometry instruments (LC-MS, GC-MS).
  • Experience conducting untargeted and targeted metabolomic & lipidomic analyses.
  • Experience in sample extraction and prep techniques.
  • Ability to work with complex datasets using preferably Thermo’s Compound Discoverer, MZvault, Lipidsearch, TraceFinder, or other LCMS software solutions.
  • Applied experience in multivariate statistics and experimental design is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, statistical, scientific computing, data visualization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in actively learning and teaching others at Impossible foods.
  • Ability to thrive despite uncertainty.
  • Passion for our Mission.
