Job Description

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy.
CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. The RF - Mechanical Engineer position is an integral part of the RF Heating team and will aid in the design, prototyping and testing of modules for the RF Heating System on SPARC. Specific assignments will be determined by the SRO in conjunction with the engineering staff.

This team member will:

  • Design of RF power modules with a focus on manufacturability 
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians to develop and qualify high-power RF equipment.
  • Perform R&D and prototype builds, and perform performance testing on these devices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvement  
  • Communicate challenges and ideas effectively to peers and leadership

The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s Preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 yrs. experience with the design for production of electrical assemblies.  
  • Experience specifying folded sheet metal components and assemblies. 
  • Firm grasp of engineering concepts, theories and processes
  • Superior technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems
  • Good skills in mechanical CAD software, preferably Siemens NX

Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:

  • Experience in engineering change management process.
  • A demonstrated understanding of thermal management of electrical and electronic assemblies.
  • Perform activities such as standing or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
