Digital Systems department at NIO is responsible for building highly reliable, secure, and scalable software for intelligent and fully autonomous driving vehicles. Our scope includes vehicle operating system, software platform, development & productivity tools, central computer and SOA-based digital architecture, cyber security, vehicle cloud & connectivity, etc.
NIO is seeking a Head of Networking & Communications Lab for our San Jose, CA location. As the Head of Networking & Communications, you will launch a lab with focus on design of high-performance, low-latency, expandable, high-reliability, and low-power automotive communication network architecture, and develop the forward Vehicle network technology for NIO's Vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Research and development of a network communication platform for the next generation of intelligent electric vehicles, involving high-speed on-board communication networks and protocols, etc
• Research and develop high-speed communication networks of intelligent vehicles, design high-performance, low-latency, expandable, high-reliability, and low-power automotive communication network architecture to support L4 automatic driving massive sensor data processing and future intelligent cockpit requirements
• Design a multi-level high-speed communication network architecture to build a high-speed communication channel between the central brain of the smart car and each computing unit
• Formulate the technological development route of the next generation of computing and communication platforms, participate in the formulation of standards of international related technology alliances (computing platforms, Ethernet, protocol stacks, etc.), and participate in the formulation of domestic related technical standards, policies and regulations
• Attract talents from around the world, establish network communication laboratories, coordinate or lead the design and prototype development of innovative projects to support the research and development of next-generation vehicle digital platforms

Qualifications

• 10+ years professional experiences in the Networking and Communications domain
• PhD in computer science, networking, communication, electronics, and/or automation
• Has outstanding achievements in the fields of Data Platform, servers, computer networks, wireless communications, etc., or academic leaders in this field, have published influential papers in related fields, and have a keen perspective on the future development of vehicle network communications.
• Network communication field has a wide range of collaborative experience, including university research, IC IP companies and IC design companies, etc., can combine theory with practice, and verify the forward-looking technology or implement it on the ground
• Communication background, experience in designing large network communication systems such as switch, router, mobile phone, base station or military industry
• Cross-team communication and influence building

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in R&D of distributed, parallel computing systems
• Experience in laboratory management and operation 

Benefits

• The US base salary range for this full-time position is $211,000 - $275,000
• Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training
