Job Description

At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We are a passionate team working together toward a sustainable future, solving high-impact problems that have never been solved before. By delivering everyday flight for everyone, we're making it possible to spend less time getting there and more time being there. If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on!
Wisk is seeking a new member for our team to serve as an Aerodynamics Engineer. The Aerodynamics engineer will take a proactive role in the design, analysis, and flight test of current and future Wisk eVTOL platforms. In this role you will predict aerodynamic environments with modern CFD codes, design and optimize the surfaces to improve their aerodynamic performance,  run in-house aircraft performance tools, and develop scripts to pre- and post-process aerodynamic data. Additionally, you will effectively collaborate with other disciplines such as GNC, Flight Test, Loads and Structures.  If you are proactive, self-directed, hands-on, and thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced start-up environment, please apply!

Within 3 months you will

  • Get up to speed on the variety of tools and processes the aerodynamics team uses to generate aerodynamic environments, loads, and performance predictions
  • Start contributing to multi-disciplinary trade studies that will define the shape of the aircraft OML to improve vehicle performance

Within 6 months you will

  • Perform and implement aerodynamic database updates using data from a variety of different sources - including multi-fidelity CFD, experiment, flight test and reduced order models.
  • Run in-house tools to update performance predictions
  • Take ownership of the design of significant components of the aircraft OML - including wing, empennage, and fuselage. This requires the applicant to work well in a large group with a diversity of backgrounds, to ensure that a robust multi-disciplinary approach to the design process is employed that addresses goals from a variety of stakeholders.

Required

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant discipline
  • 5+ years of aerodynamics experience working on complex aerospace systems
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft aerodynamics and fundamentals
  • Experience running CFD tools and developing aerodynamic databases
  • Experience with using CFD tools to support a multi-disciplinary design and optimization process, such as working with other departments on design trade studies.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python and MATLAB) and automation

Desired

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant discipline
  • 10+ years of aerodynamics experience working on complex aerospace systems
  • FAA certification program experience, Part 23 or Part 27 experience preferred
  • Experience or coursework in rotorcraft aerodynamics
  • Experience with aircraft and/or rotorcraft control actuation systems
  • Experience analyzing flight test data and parameter identification using SIDPAC or similar tools
  • Experience with wind tunnel, simulation and/or flight tests for aircraft performance and handling qualities.
