Purpose Driven Position

The Analytical Technician will join the CarbonCure research group to lead the laboratory analytical activities as part of a team that is investigating the linkage between the material science of cement and concrete and the reaction chemistry of CO 2 with the intent to further the development of CarbonCure’s various technologies. The candidate will have the primary responsibility to conduct necessary analytical testing using the appropriate equipment and techniques, as a contribution to the overall success of CarbonCure. Activities are in support of CarbonCure’s mission to achieve 500 megatonnes of annual CO 2 emissions reductions through the industry standardization of CO 2 utilization in concrete production.


About You
The successful candidate has strong technical knowledge of chemistry and chemical analyses, high attention to detail, and an appetite for innovation. This is a team environment where collaboration and communication skills are critical to facilitate teamwork with cross functional work groups.

What you'll be doing

  • Prepare and analyze specimens for material testing according to set procedures
  •  Conduct material testing with techniques such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), quantitative x-ray analysis (QXRD), and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)
  • Conduct testing following established procedures and good laboratory practices.
  • Maintain analytical equipment in optimally functional state
  • Maintain tested specimens in order to reconfirm test results, when necessary
  • Compiling and presenting results in defined technical reporting formats
  • Author standard operating procedures and training for laboratory users
  • Support the development, validation, and implementation of new chemical testing procedures for research purposes.
  • Assist in performing and interpreting the results for bench scale laboratory experiments aimed at understanding the behavior of cement with CO2.
  • Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures appropriate for the laboratory
  • Make creative and innovative recommendations for future research efforts based on observations, data and knowledge
  • Identify other areas for opportunity and propose research projects aligned with company goals
  • Maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of laboratory equipment
  • Oversee material inventory for functioning concrete lab


What you'll need to succeed

  • A passion for sustainability and addressing climate change
  • University degree in Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering
  • Experience in an analytical lab and solutions-based customer support
  • Experience in compilation and analysis of test results
  • Knowledge of cement chemistry, cement hydration, cement-admixture interactions, and concrete performance.
  • Experience in analytical techniques such as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), quantitative x-ray analysis (QXRD), and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)
  • Strong planning abilities with attention to deadlines and the ability to articulately report against stated goals
  • An ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, time management and communication skills.
  • Creative mind, with an eagerness to turn new process concepts into practice and to demonstrate their technical feasibility.
  • A passion for positive and meaningful environmental change, and technical innovation within a global industry.
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities, and a natural inclination to think outside the box.
  • Motivated, energetic team player that enjoys an entrepreneurial, collaborative work environment.
