THE ROLE

A newly created opportunity for a General Counsel to join us in a true business partnership role, with exposure to every single team at Zoomo. Reporting to the CEO you will be working on exciting strategic work, as we scale at speed, you will be innovative, think outside the box and devise solutions that are commercially minded.

In this role you will lead a global legal team consisting of senior inhouse counsel with experience in high value commercial negotiations (including multimillion dollar B2B agreements, SaaS agreements and hardware procurement agreements), litigation, product liability, corporate law and data privacy. Every day presents a new and exciting challenge to our legal team and we are looking for someone who is just as excited and passionate as we are to lead our business onto the next stage of growth in the micro mobility space.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives on dynamic, cross-jurisdictional areas of law including commercial law, corporate law and governance, insurance, supply chain and logistics, and risk and compliance
  • As the Company Secretary, be able to advise and consult with the Board of Directors on key issues including providing strategic commercial advice and guidance on legal and regulatory matters to improve business outcomes
  • Manage legal risk to the business, while developing mitigation strategies in collaboration with the executive team.
  • Provide effective and efficient management of the legal function including improving systems and processes that increase the business’s access to the legal function.We are all about being enablers to the business
  • Assist in the management of actual, threatened, or potential litigation and advising on disputes with third parties and queries from regulators
  • Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
  • Establish strong and constructive relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external, and manage external counsel and strategic advisors (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.) by creating relations of trust
  • Lead complex contract negotiations and apply a strategic and commercial lens to ensure that commercial outcomes that are best for business are achieved, while mitigating the business’s exposure to risk.
  • Translate complex legal advice in clear and simple terms to the business.
  • Conduct work with transparency, integrity and responsibility
  • Maintain an understanding of the laws and regulations relating to manufacturers and suppliers of LEVs in the micromobility space.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, with a minimum of 10 years experience of the Australian legal framework, with a top-tier international law firm or top multinational company. Bonus points for exposure to working in the electric vehicle industry or in clean energy.
  • Have experience negotiating (procurement, commercial, capital markets, corporate governance, risk & compliance, insurance)
  • Highly valued strategic and operational legal advisory and management capabilities
  • Previous experience of raising capital and negotiating with VC funds.
  • Strong leadership, networking and influencing capability with demonstrated experience in leading and managing individuals and large teams across multiple geographic locations
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of commercial law, corporate law and governance, insurance, supply chain and logistics, and risk and compliance
  • Ability to make sound business decisions quickly and in the face of ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated ability to commence, defend or resolve a dispute or litigation by balancing the need to manage risks with commercial outcomes and ensuring compliance with all relevant legal requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in working effectively with a diverse range of people including regulators, and an ability to communicate to a superior level while maintaining clear and simple messaging
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity
