About Rondo

Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years. To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as 'difficult-to-decarbonize'. The Heat Batteries are charged from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency, and at a cost point that is lower than any other method.

Rondo is seeking a temporary Manufacturing Supervisor with strong leadership and manufacturing experience in transitioning new product from prototype to production state.

About the Manufacturing Supervisor Position

Key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain focus on safety through a dynamically changing manufacturing environment
  • Become a process expert through hands on training of each portion of assembly
  • Grow production team by interviewing, training, and deploying new technicians to the line
  • Manage production technicians – scheduling, timecards, etc.
  • Ensure efficient use of team through balancing of work content as employees are added or removed
  • Meet aggressive weekly/monthly production volume targets – schedule overtime, communicate progress and capacity limitation, etc.
  • Address daily issues that prevent meeting takt – equipment issues, fill in as needed if someone needs to leave early, order replacements for broken or missing tooling, etc.
  • Communicate and drive corrective action on quality issues arising from manufacturing processes
  • Identify and reduce waste in process that allows to meet takt with less hours and capital
  • Promote and maintain kaizen culture through focus on standardization and continual improvement against standards
  • Maintain production 5S
  • Interface between R&D and technicians to communicate and train team to product, tooling, or process changes.
  • Facilitate physical change of line (add or remove stations or equipment) as production scales, incorporate new equipment, etc.
  • Plan for future step changes in volume by helping to perform time studies and documentation that can be used to identify requirements and constraints at different volumes.
  • Help to plan and coordinate transfer of production to new building
  • Support prototype and development efforts during any lulls in production, potentially including hands on assembly, fabrication, problem solving, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of experience with scaling manufacturing of new products and facilities from prototypes to volume production.
  • 3+ years of experience managing direct reports in a manufacturing setting
  • Solid understanding of Toyota Production System and Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Experience performing time studies and balancing content among team members
  • Strong leadership skills with a firm but respectful presence that clearly communicates expectations of the team, provides support, and maintains accountability.  Able to create a cadence-based atmosphere where the team is “appropriately stressed” - targets placed on individuals are reasonable and achievable, but all understand that veering off task or being unproductive slows down the whole team.
  • Ability to recognize early on when an individual and/or the team is falling behind, help them catch back up, understand why they were behind, and develop counter measures to reduce future variability
  • Not afraid to get hands-on to help the line get caught up, reconfigure the stations, fabricate projects to improve efficiency, put tape on the ground, etc.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills under pressure of a ticking clock.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Driven and self-motivated. Must be able to work independently with minimal direction, take initiative, maintain relationships, and work effectively and collaboratively at all levels of the organization

The role may require traveling up to 10% to support testing facilities.

Rondo provides equal employment opportunities (EEO).
