UX Designer, Ride Experience Internship/Co-op

The Experience Team collaborates across Zoox to define and champion the “Human Experience”. We embrace a human-centered design process that is collaborative, data-driven, and iterative. We'll address new challenges around AI and define interaction paradigms to advance human experience through design.

We are looking for a Design Research Intern to join our Experience Research workstream. The ideal candidate is a passionate creative thinker, who is eager to learn and solve challenging problems. You will involve all design and development of vehicle human-to-system interfaces in an integrated and collaborative fashion, supporting the design, development, and preparation of deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers to identify research needs and develop a research strategy
• Design, plan and execute research activities including but not limited to: field studies, interviews, participatory design, interaction analysis, and analogous research
• Communicate research findings in a clear and meaningful manner to key stakeholders 
• Synthesize research insights and actionable recommendations to inform product decisions

Requirements

• Currently working towards an M.A. in a relevant program
• Good academic standing
• Can commit to at least a 12-week internship
• At least one previous industry internship, co-op, or project completed in a relevant area
• Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California for the duration of the internship
• Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Illustrator, Flinto, FramerX, etc.
• A portfolio showcasing relevant design work
• Proven problem-solving ability and strong user empathy
• Interest in product inclusivity and accessibility

Bonus Qualifications

• UX/UI prototyping skills.
• Experience in tech or automotive industries

CompensationThe monthly salary range for this position is $5,500 to $7,500. Compensation will vary based on role, degree level and type, and benefits will be offered based on eligibility. Additional benefits may include medical insurance, 401k, and a housing stipend.
Vaccine MandateEmployees working in this position will be required to have received a single dose of the J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine OR have completed the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series. In addition, employees will be required to receive a COVID-19 booster vaccine within two months of becoming eligible for the booster vaccine.
