Job Description

Impossible Foods was founded to transform the global food system and reduce the impact of climate change by making the world’s most delicious, nutritious, and sustainable meat, fish, and dairy — from plants. We’re building a rockstar team of brilliant, collaborative, mission-driven individuals who take pride in using their diverse skills to contribute to saving our planet.
Want to join the movement? You can help us solve the most urgent, important challenge facing the world today (and have fun doing it).
We are seeking a motivated and mission-aligned (Sr.) Scientist/Manager to join the Innovation department - an interdisciplinary team of designers, scientists, engineers, product developers and chefs. You have a strong background in food science and a technical understanding to create delicious products to scale commercially. You will conceptualize and develop new products and reformulate existing products. You bring project management skills, communicate well cross-functionally, and will collaborate side by side with scientists and developers to deliver outstanding products for consumers.

You Will:

  • Work in a cross-functional environment (including product and project managers, designers, nutritionists, quality, food safety, and sensory experts) to bring novel plant-based meat products to new and existing markets.
  • Take the lead on technical efforts to develop and optimize plant-based meat formulations to meet product requirements and consumer expectations.
  • Design and conduct benchtop experiments, analyze data, summarize results, and share conclusions.
  • Use sensory and instrumental assays to guide and validate progress.
  • Keep detailed experimental notebooks and document progress and decision-making.
  • Independently set up project plans and hold yourself and others accountable to reach results on time; communicate variance from and changes to the project plan.
  • Ensure cross-functional alignment by leading project review meetings and using your communication and influencing skills.
  • Help the team work together in a positive, inclusive, and equitable way. Mediate and resolve disagreements between team members; ask for help appropriately when needed.
  • Guide, coach and mentor more junior team members.

You Have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D in a scientific field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, or equivalent experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this role.
  • Consistent track record in food science and product development, experience with formulation development
  • A self starter approach, and the ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Ability to lead projects/programs in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment
  • Resourceful, can-do problem solving approach; creativity and flexibility in finding solutions.
  • A passion to build delicious plant-based products
  • Calm presence in stressful situations
  • Strong listening skills
  • Attention to detail – meticulous focus on costs, results, and project plans.
  • You are imaginative yet decisive -- curious about everything but remain focused
  • Experience in designing and conducting sensory testing is a nice to have
