Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be working in the Growth Team, reporting into the Head of Performance Marketing. This is a commercial role, primarily passionate about achieving acquisition targets across a range of energy, home services and smart tech products.


You are an expert digital marketing strategist, specialising in search engine optimisation and conversion rate optimisation. In this role you will be OVO’s strategic lead for SEO, CRO and Refer a Friend. You will work with cross-functional teams and specialist agencies to grow organic rankings, traffic and sales, improve landing page performance and grow advocacy and organic referrals. 

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include:

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

  • Develop and implement an SEO strategy, growing the visibility of our brands in organic search and supporting wider Commercial and Brand goals
  • Commission and handle agencies to support on technical SEO, content strategy, content production and outreach as required
  • Act as an internal SEO expert and consultant, ensuring best practice is followed by Brand and Commercial teams throughout the business
  • Work with Product and Tech teams to ensure that technical SEO is considered at all stages of website development and production
  • Work with the creative studio and agencies to commission new content, ensure that SEO best practice is followed and supervise ongoing efficiency
  • Work with colleagues across Growth, Brand and Comms and to ensure a coordinated approach to owned media, digital PR and outreach
  • Build appropriate reporting to update the business on impact and efficiency and to inform prioritisation of future initiatives

Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO)

  • Develop and implement a CRO strategy, testing and optimising to increase conversion rates across key commercial landing pages
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Product and Tech to agree the tools, processes and frameworks that enable an agile approach to testing
  • Work with colleagues in Performance Marketing to find opportunities for testing and optimisation and to agree on a prioritisation
  • Build out reporting and insight capabilities to identify the biggest areas of opportunity across the purchase funnel

Refer a Friend (RAF)

  • Lead OVO’s Refer a Friend scheme, including day-to-day oversight of external partners and collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Review the scheme strategy and design to unlock new opportunities for growth through advocacy and dedication 

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have:

  • Strategic commercial experience, a track record of getting things done and delivering growth within a commercial environment
  • An understanding of the latest SEO standard process and the ability to explain to a range of team members why it is important and what to do about it
  • Proven experience in SEO, ideally across relevant or adjacent sectors, with a blend of technical, content and outreach skills
  • Hands-on experience in CRO including developing strategy and processes, selecting tools and partners and crafting and implementing tests
  • Experience of developing advocacy and referral as a channel and the ability to articulate the key levers of growth within the channel
  • Experience of handling agencies, with a focus on building positive relationships, agreeing clear processes and delivering against targets
  • Knowledge of marketing principles, with an ability to articulate how brand and performance marketing should work together over the long term
  • Analytical problem solver, with a talent for interpreting data, discovering concrete insights using these to improve performance
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with an ability to turn data and insights into engaging presentations
