The Hardware Development Project Manager will oversee the development of the wasted* circular sanitation product suite.
The ideal candidate will have experience mobilizing cross-functional teams to align stakeholders around strategic direction and deliver on product vision. Additionally, this candidate will ideally have experience managing supply chains and external manufacturing.
In the immediate term, this position will be managing and coordinating outsourced design & engineering teams through beta testing, product feedback aggregation, DFM, and manufacturing.
Looking forward, this role will cover novel product development projects, product feature development, revisions of hardware or software updates, or product pilots.
At the fundamental level, this project manager’s role in wasted* is to lead a broad cross-functional project team and manage scope, budget, schedule and quality with high order ability to bring people and teams together, identify risks and necessary trade offs to maintain track with program goals and negotiate between those stakeholders to deliver a product that will meet our business goals to delight our customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage product development for hardware from beta testing through DFM to mass production and continued innovation.
Clearly articulate objectives and product parameters to the product team while coordinating workflows.
Translate customer feedback into tangible design objectives and product functional requirements.
Innovate on processes to optimize project communication & product development that keep design and engineering feedback loops lightning fast.
Understand hardware product roadmaps and help ensure that new product initiatives meet long-term strategic goals.
Drive alignment around product definition and establish clear product requirements to help guide internal and external teams during development of a new product.
Drive hardware development projects forward by:
Managing day to day internal and external product development meetings, tasks, and actions
Helping to generate requirements documentation, communicate them to the appropriate teams, and ensure timely cross-functional execution.
Creating and maintaining project schedules
Coordinating regularly with external stakeholders and manufacturing partners to maintain alignment on schedule and outcomes
Tracking regulatory and legal requirements and making sure they are met in a timely fashion
Managing DFM process and tooling kick-off with suppliers
Planning and overseeing early prototype builds as well as larger-scale engineering and design verification builds (EVT & DVT) both domestically and overseas.
Establishing, tracking and reporting on project budget and financial health.
Managing COGs to inform pricing discussions.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
Mechanical engineering background, BS or MS preferred
7-10+ years of direct experience in hardware project management and development experience of designing, developing, and shipping physical products
Highly skilled in project scheduling, planning, and tracking
Experience working with outsourced design and manufacturers
Experience with supply chain management and manufacturing
Experience with cost estimating and managing budgets
Experience with risk management and mitigation
Experience with user-centered design
Experience measuring the effectiveness of the systems that you manage
Demonstrate the ability to iterate product reliability and manufacturability requirements based on data, analytics, and strategy
Capable of balancing team member and business needs while remaining flexible in a fast-changing startup environment
