Job Description

RMI’s newly imagined marketing and communications team – known inside the institute as the Influence Team – is looking for a detail-oriented project manager to coordinate all aspects of planning and execution for a variety of communications and marketing projects across the organization.

This person will also work closely with the editorial team to manage the execution of a suite of editorial projects that include stories, articles, op-eds, reports, multi-media content, web and social copy, as well as the processes associated with the editing and review of these products. Topically, our content covers RMI’s full spectrum of research, analysis, and consulting, spanning a dozen programs focused on transforming energy use to solve the climate crisis. 

This person will be the steward of the various editorial elements of campaigns, ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget and on brand. At the same time, this person will collaborate closely across related teams including creative (design, photo, video), social, marketing, operations, and program leads. In addition, this person will help oversee the editorial portion of the Influence Team’s budget, including managing outside freelancers (writers, editors, copy editors, and related services) and agencies along with various digital tools, as well as monitoring overall workload/capacity among in-house and outsourced editorial resources.  

The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent project and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and be a natural problem solver who can develop and tweak processes and workflows to deliver top-quality content and products across RMI’s range of programs.  

This role will be part of a growing team of operations professionals, reporting to the

Sr. Manager, Creative Operations and will work closely with the Chief Storyteller, who heads RMI’s editorial team. 

Responsibilities 

  • Act as project manager on assigned projects, collaborate cross functionally, and guide teams through all stages of a multi-channel content production process 
  • Set and coordinate production schedules for a team of editorial writers working across RMI programs 
  • Review grants proposals to ensure editorial is adequately scoped 
  • Generate and manage project timelines, including coordinating key milestones 
  • Initiate and lead all appropriate project meetings, and assist in preparing presentation materials as needed 
  • Organize the concepting of ideas, development, and execution 
  • Influence the efficiency and quality of work 
  • Monitor and enforce project constraints (schedule/scope/resources), while keeping the team on track and motivated 
  • Own project management/workflow system data entry, reporting, and actualization of project budget  
  • Monitor out of scope requests and initiate additional estimates and client approvals 
  • Prepare vendor bid packages as needed, generating estimates, and securing client approvals on estimates and overages 
  • Anticipate and flag project issues/risks and clearly communicate possible solutions  

 Qualifications 

  •  3-5 years experience as a project manager or producer (agency or newsroom experience a plus) 
  • Possess a refined project management aptitude, and instinct for leadership 
  • Self-motivated and willing to expand knowledge 
  • Experience in generating budgets, staffing plans, and complex timelines 
  • Proficiency in project management tools  
  • Solution oriented self-starter with a positive “can-do” attitude 
  • Ability to quickly react and adapt to changing environments 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills 
  • Reliable, and can establish trust with their teams 
  • Organized and passionate about process improvement 
  • Familiar with or interest in climate and energy topics and committed to scaling market-based solutions  

Location 

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States. 

We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies. 

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

Compensation 

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new leads join at the minimum to mid-salary range of $72,000 - $87,000. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
