Job Description

Currently is a weather service for the climate emergency. Our mission is to cultivate timely and accurate weather information that supports community resilience and safety. We work to illuminate possible paths toward a liberated, habitable and joyful future for people and the environment alike. In addition to daily weather newsletters in 20+ cities around the world, our original journalism focuses on climate justice and our full-service weather service provides timely meteorological services to individuals, businesses, and nonprofits.

But we're just getting started. Our new director of operations will lead our day-to-day activities — focusing and magnifying our efforts to foster joy and safety to people on the frontlines of the climate emergency.

The successful candidate will have lead remote teams of more than 50 people, and have experience in a mission-driven startup.

If you think of yourself as a "business person" that's new to climate, that's perfectly fine — even an asset! Most of our team are "climate people" that are new to business. We need your discipline in focusing enthusiastic teams that have more ideas than time to execute them, your knowledge in performance metrics that lead to successful B2B SaaS growth trajectories, and your connections across economic sectors that are strongly affected by weather and climate to develop new business opportunities.

Desired experience:

  • 5-plus years of work experience in operations and/or human resources
  • Experience prioritizing enthusiastic teams that are full of ideas
  • Experience managing medium-sized remote teams (50+ people)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment (ideally a media company)
  • Enthusiasm for weather and climate science — including science communication
  • Ability to own and manage many overlapping responsibilities
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • We are a justice-focused weather service, and a successful candidate intuitively understands how weather affects every part of our lives — and how climate change creates and exacerbates inequalities in access to life-saving weather information

Duties:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the entire team
  • Perform routine HR tasks (payroll, contracts, onboarding, offboarding)
  • Work with CEO on organizational strategy, including personel needs
  • Communicate with and work in conjunction with the entire Currently team to update our goals and pivot in new directions as the company grows
  • Collaborate with our meteorologists, editorial, and partnership teams to ensure our work aligns with Currently’s core values and mission
  • Hire freelance support staff to help achieve company goals

Location:

Remote, work will focus on North America

Compensation:
Starting salary: $100,000 USD/yr with opportunity for quick advancement + performance-based incentives + equity options in our fast-growing startup. If we achieve our growth objectives, the equity options alone could be worth $1MM or more in less than 5 years.

This position is full-time equivalent, with a generous benefits package including health care, retirement, and unlimited paid time off. Joining us means you’ll be a core part of a team with a singular opportunity to make a difference in the world at a critical moment in history.

Women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. This will be a remote position, and we’ll work together to make sure your needs are heard and respected. You are not required to be a US citizen or be based in the US.

Deadline to apply: September 28th, 2022.  Candidates will be selected the first week of October.
