About The Role

The Vice President for Tax Policy will lead client engagement, strategy development, and government affairs execution for leading transportation companies, non-profits, trade associations, and financial institutions. Core responsibilities and competencies include:


  • Engage with the Administration and the committees of jurisdiction on Capitol Hill (i.e., the Senate Finance Committee and the House Committee on Ways & Means) to implement key provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act
  • Provide strategic counsel and craft and execute legislative, regulatory, and political strategies to achieve federal policy goals 
  • Ability to draft model legislation related or amendments to existing programs or legislation to achieve client objectives 
  • Serve as the public policy lead for a client utilizing the firm’s expertise and working closely with the client’s legal, policy, and business lines 
  • Manage staff at the Director and Manager levels to create documents, memos, and slide decks for clients  and proactively flag and synthesize policy developments and political intelligence for clients
  • Strong writer with the ability to deliver clients work product summarizing and explaining complex ideas and concepts in a format that is clear, concise, and easy to digest
  • Build relationships with key policymakers both on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies and with other influential federal government-oriented stakeholders
  • Prepare clients for Congressional hearings, federal agency rulemakings, and other federal legislative and regulatory proceedings
  • Represent clients in national trade associations and industry coalitions
  • Build third-party political, advocacy, NGO, and industry allies to support strategic policy objectives
  • Uncover business opportunities and new opportunities with existing clients 
  • Manage client relationships from proposal generation through execution of government affairs strategy and become a go-to-trusted resource for clients 


About You

  • 10+ years of federal government, policy or corporate government relations experience in the energy, transportation, or financial  sector with a focus on tax policy
  • Deep understanding of Congressional lawmaking and federal regulatory processes
  • Deep understanding of Federal Agencies' funding programs and policy development
  • Established Congressional and Executive branch relationships and you confidently interact with key Hill staff, elected officials, and executives alike
  • Strategic thinker with polished oral and written presentation skills
  • Thrive under pressure and can balance long and short-term priorities to deliver results
  • Resourceful and entrepreneurial, roll-up your sleeves, and not afraid to think outside the box
  • Experience as a team-oriented people manager
  • Want to work with a team who values collegiality and a sense of humor
