Job Description

Kim Lundgren Associates, Inc. (KLA) is seeking a detail oriented, motivated Climate Analyst to support our local government clients with their efforts to reduce their contributions to and enhance their resilience to climate change. This position fills a critical role in the delivery of actionable climate and sustainability plans backed by measurable performance metrics. The Climate Analyst will support our ongoing and evolving greenhouse gas inventory, analysis, forecasting and quantification that is essential to the development of data-driven climate mitigation and resilience work. A successful candidate will be able to balance technical analysis rigor with creative ways to report the results to a broad audience.

We do this by delivering affordable tools and services to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate climate action and sustainability goals and programs. With only 8 years remaining to take exponential action to avoid catastrophic climate change, KLA is hiring for a number of positions. The Climate Analyst will support client projects on sustainability and climate action planning processes by conducting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories and GHG reduction pathways analyses; contributing to climate and social vulnerability assessments; and supporting implementation of climate solutions. We expect this hire will have an opportunity for significant growth and are looking for a self-motivated, passionate person to shape the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of data collection
    • Develop project data requirements that respond to individual project context and client priorities
    • Submit data requests, follow up, and documentation
    • Maintain records of data and methodological decisions
    • Anticipate, troubleshoot, and communicate data-related challenges
    • Continuously work to identify new data sources and maintain KLA state of the art practice area
  • Research and Analysis
    • Preparation of government operations, community scale, and regional GHG Inventories
    • Complete calculations of GHG reduction potential of local policies for climate action plans
    • Collect data for and calculate metrics across a range of climate related topics
    • Assess climate hazards and impacts on community members, infrastructure, natural resources, and economic activity
    • Contribute to the generation of new approaches to generating local data that informs climate planning and performance management
    • Analysis of financial impacts of policies and actions
    • Research to support the development of implementation steps and resources for plan actions
  • Organizational
    • Support the development of internal databases and tracking tools for KLA’s client best practices
    • Build relationships with existing clients and identify opportunities to enhance support to them

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ proven experience with technical analysis ideally in GHG accounting, sustainability, climate resilience, climate mitigation and/or adaptation
  • Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to work independently
  • Must have strong analytical skills
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and be able to easily translate data and science into everyday terms
  • Must be an expert with MS Excel and the entire Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with GIS

This position includes a flexible schedule, healthcare and phone/internet benefits and starts with 4 weeks of paid time off + 12 holidays. Salary for this full-time position ranges from $60,000-$85,000 commensurate with experience, and participation in KLA’s performance and accountability bonus program is available after 3 months of demonstrated success in position.
