Job Description

Brilliant Planet has an exciting opening for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Engineer to support the infrastructure design for developing a 30-hectare demonstration site initially followed by a series of 1,000-hectare commercial sites (£100m+ ea.). The ideal candidate would have experience in the design of large scale infrastructure projects, from concept through to detailed design, leading to construction and commissioning. The successful candidate will be expected to work with limited supervision, undertaking engineering analysis and calculations to prepare technical design information, reports and specifications to deliver engineering solutions. You would have demonstrable industry experience delivering designs, with direct emphasis on 3D modelling and information management for civil engineering or other related infrastructure disciplines. You will be part of the Engineering and Design team, reporting to the Chief Engineer and will work closely with all other divisions & departments, in particular the Digital Systems and Project Management Office. The role offers the successful applicant the opportunity to progress their career working as part of a team of innovative engineers and specialists.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of electrical and mechanical engineering analysis, calculations, reports, schedules and specifications for sitewide infrastructure power supply, control systems and water distribution/control systems
  • Interfacing and coordinating with other engineers and technicians to translate outline engineering proposals into detailed models and designs in accordance with relevant design Codes and Standards
  • Ensuring design outputs are correctly transferred to 3D project model and 2D drawing outputs as general arrangement drawings, plans, profiles, sections and relevant details
  • Scoping of all necessary investigation works to assist design and construction
  • Driving efficient and sustainable designs to drive down embedded and operational carbon as well as CAPEX and OPEX whilst ensuring Health and Safety are of paramount importance for all stages of asset lifecycle
  • Preparing engineering output in support of construction procurement and subsequent testing and commissioning stages

Requirements

Qualifications/selection criteria:

  • A degree in a Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline and be qualified with a relevant professional institution
  • 7+ years senior level experience in the infrastructure design of multi-disciplinary large scale infrastructure projects with significant footprint ideally in the Water and Wastewater Treatment, Industrial and Process Control industries or similar
  • Experience in HV/LV supply and distribution, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA), SCADA, lightning protection and Motor Control Centres (MCC)
  • Experience in construction stage technical support, testing and systems commissioning
  • Working knowledge of design codes and standards with experience of using industry standard design software
  • Hands on experience in the production of engineering analysis, calculations, reports, and leading the preparation of design details for drafting by others;
  • Confident, articulate and proactive individual with experience of working in multi-disciplinary and collaborative design team environment
  • Working knowledge of best practice design procedures, change control, checking and review
  • Experience of working within a BIM environment and CDE for infrastructure design delivery
  • Experience of managing programmes and deadlines, delivering to time and budget
Experience in the design of overseas sites would be advantageous
